Fix Unifi Error 38 by these steps in 2021

Unifi Mobile Logo

Unifi Mobile refers to a Malaysian telecommunications, broadband and 4G service provider. It was initially known as Packet One Networks (P1). It was founded in the year 2002 and is also a subsidiary of Green Packet Berhad. The most unique part about this telecom company is that it usually doesn’t advertise its network as 4G network.

It is initially a marketing gimmick because WiMAX does not meet the ITU’s specification of 4G which needs attaining a download speed of at least 1Gbit/s for tabletop transceivers and 100Mbit/s for mobile transceivers. But P1 is not alone in this marketing gimmick, two more WiMAX-based ISPs, Yes 4G and Asiaspace Dotcom AMAX have been marketing their technology as 4G. A fact that the upcoming WiMAX Release 2, i.e. IEEE 802.16m specification adheres to the 4 specifications and has been officially recognized by ITU as a 4G system and this further adds to the confusion.

In that matter, no current LTE network meets the needs for IMT-advanced networks. The new LTE-Advanced 3GPP rel 9 and WiMAX 2 IEEE 802.16m systems have yet to be deployed commercially. But most WiMAX and LTE networks needs to be upgradable to the actual 4G versions and there is yet to be a WiMAX company upgrade for the actual 4G version at this point of time.

Now, talking about the problems in Unifi mobile, there are many but only one of them has been a major problem for many users and that is the Error 38 issue. In simple terms, when this error occurs, you can’t send messages to anyone. Some users have said that message has not been sent and it shows Error 38 along with the message that sending has failed. Firstly users thought that maybe they have blocked the numbers but they were shocked to see none of the numbers have been blocked by them. So, if the problem has been bothering you very much, you can follow these steps and try to fix it yourself –

For Android users,

  1. Go to ‘Messaging’.
  2. Open ‘Messaging Settings’.
  3. On the basis of your number, search for the SMSC number and a few will be in ‘Advance Settings’.
  4. Check if the SMSC number has been configured correctly.
  5. Ensure that the SMSC number must be +6011110499999.

For Apple users,

  1. Enter *#5005*7672#.
  2. Press on ‘Call’.
  3. There will be three options:

(i) Settings interrogation succeeded.

(ii) Service center address.

(iii) The current SMSC number will be shown.

  1. For changing the Message Center Number:

(i) Enter **5005*7672*+601110499999#.

(ii) Press ‘Call’ and you will get a similar message but if you check again, you will see the new number.
