With the start of episode 2, Riot Games is making several changes to the competition mode, including new regional rankings, an update to the rank system and better ergonomics.
A quick summary of Valorant Episode 2 – Act 1 Competitive Changes:
- Regional Leaderboards showing the cumulative rank of Immortal and Radiant players.
- Changed to a preset solo / duo limit for Immortal and Radiant players.
- Changed rank and episode end rewards.
- Progress arrows replaced with progress bar and numeric progress for more details.
- Numerous ergonomic improvements.
Regional Ranks
Everyone wants to know who is at the top. Each region will now be able to see all of the players who reach Immortal or Radiant rank (the top 500) in the customer leaderboard. We also want you to be able to trust the leaderboard, as a dynamic and evolving reflection of the elite. Players will therefore have to earn their place and stay active to keep it.
- The ranking is displayed in the client (with an Internet version on playvalorant.com available less than 24 hours after the deployment of episode 2)
- Radiant players (top 500 by region)
- Immortal players (around 1% of players ranked by region)
- Immortal will now be a single rank, with the Immortal 3 icon
- Ranked rank and ranking score (SC for short)
- Riot ID, title and player card
- Victories by act
- Possibility to make your name anonymous as a “Secret Agent”
- Unique by region NA, EU, APAC, BR, LATAM, KR
- Updates in real time
- Conditions to access the ranking:
- 50 ranked games required to place in the leaderboard (retroactive for already active players)
- Requires to play at least 1 competitive game per week (7 rolling days) to stay in the leaderboard
- Banned players will not appear on the leaderboard
Main Ranking System
Our old ranking system did not allow you to place yourself precisely between the ranks, to know the potential gains from one game to another, or to understand your evolution. These changes should make the rank system easier to understand, fairer, and it will be more difficult to lose ranks quickly when you are not at your peak.
- Exit the arrows. RIP.
- The new progress bar and ranking score show the proximity of the next rank.
- From Iron to Diamond, your rank progress bar will be displayed. For Immortal +, this becomes your ranking rank.
- Immortal 1, 2 and 3 are now grouped together under “Immortal”.
- Players will no longer see their hidden rank (changed to “?”) When inactive.
- This will only happen during placement matches.
How does Valorant Ranking Score Works?
- The majority of SC points come from victories or defeats (result of the game)
- You will always gain SC for a win and always lose some for a loss.
- For a win, you will earn between 10 and 50 SC.
- At least 5 SC for the Diamond +.
- For a loss, you will lose between 0 and 30 SC.
- Loss of 50 SC maximum in Diamond +.
- In case of a tie, you win a maximum of 20 SC (depending on your performance).
- Only for Iron -> Diamond, where we take individual performance into account.
- Relegation Protection: You must lose to 0 SC to be relegated.
- If you are relegated, you will not drop below 80 SC of that rank.
- Promotion bonus, where you start at a minimum of 10 SC for a win.
- A decisive victory or outstanding individual performance at low rank can help you progress faster (and bring smurfs up to their actual level faster).
- New rank ceremony and celebratory visual effect for promotions.
- Updated rank info page with info on rank rewards.
Change of Rank and End of Episode/Act Rewards
You need a better reward for the time you’ve spent playing and climbing the leaderboards, and your talent deserves recognition. Rank Lucky Charms give players a way to show off their proven best level for a respective act (their maximum act rank for that episode). For high ranking players on the leaderboard, your badge will also indicate the leaderboard position you occupied at the end of the act.
We also wanted to make the act and episode end dates clear and you could organize yourself by announcing the end of competitive acts in advance.
- The competitive season of Episode 1, Act III will end shortly before the Episode 2 patch:
- NA – 10 p.m. PT | January 11LATAM – 10 p.m. CDT | January 11
- BR – 10 p.m. BRT | January 11
- EU – 22h GMT | January 12
- APAC – 10 p.m. SGT | January 12
- KR – 10 p.m. KST | January 12
- Rank rewards for Episode 1, which will be Lucky Charms based on the highest Act Rank you achieve during that episode, will be sent out shortly after Episode 2 begins (one day or less).
- The act rank will give you a rank triangle for the rank at which you end the game.
- This changes from the previous condition, which required earning this rank to get your dear triangles.
- Your end of act rank and badge will commemorate your final position on the leaderboard at the end of the act.
- New bonus ranking score progression for your first rank games with each act.
- The number of placement games (5) is now consistent for each act, regardless of whether you performed your initial placement games or not.
- The highest rank you can achieve in placement is now Tier 3 Platinum.
- Updated rank distribution for greater leniency.
- Significant reduction in the number of Iron players and increase in the percentage of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum players. The distribution of players in Diamond and Immortal will remain largely unchanged. Radiant will bring together the top 500 players.
- Removed hidden rank during the act if players haven’t played for 14 days. When a player completes their placement, the rank will not be reset or hidden during the entire act.
