Google Stadia is a cloud gaming service developed by the tech giant Google, launched on November 19, 2019. It can be accessed through Google Chrome on any computer, supported smartphones and Chrome OS devices. There is also an experimental mode for Android phones with performance requirements of the Stadia app. In December 2020, Google released browser based application of Stadia for gameplay in Safari browser.
Stadia has two tiers of subscriptions, one is free and second one is Pro Tier which is a monthly subscription that allows users to stream games in 4K, 5.1 surround sound and also has a growing collection of free games that users can play. In order to stream games, users have to purchase games from their store. Both subscriptions, free and paid allow users to play online mutliplayer games.
Stadia also works with Youtube to support live streaming by creators. As Google has more servers around the globe, it says that it will work better than it’s rivals. Players can play their games without downloading any additional content on their device.
Stadia also has a feature called Stream Connect, which allows users to play with their friends. Users can have picture-in-picture on the corner of their display for their friends while playing games. Google has also developed a controller which connects through Wi-Fi and connects directly to Google’s data centers to reduce input latency. At the GDC 2019 keynore, Google also confirmed that the controller will have Google Assistant built-in.
