For the last few months, OnePlus has been working on OxygenOS 11. OnePlus rolled out the stable OxygenOS 11 for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro just a few days ago. But, after asking for feedback from users who have installed this update, OnePlus understood that even the latest stable has some bugs. Hence, OnePlus has now started to roll out the 3rd open beta update and this update is expected to fix those bugs.

Yesterday, an OnePlus staff member Abdul B, in a community post announced that they have started rolling out OxygenOS 11 3rd open beta update for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. This update comes with an October security patch and few optimizations. The full changelog of this update is given below.

Update Changelog:

  • System
    • Optimized the UI smoothness of Call
    • Optimized background process management mechanism to improve sandy-by performance
    • Fixed the issue that text was blocked in some games
    • Optimized the issue that input text was blocked in some games
    • Improved system stability and fixed general issues
    • Updated Android Security Patch to 2020.10
  • Ambient Display
    • Optimized the animation effect with Canvas, making the unlock experience smoother
    • Canvas now supports Always-on ambient display(Settings-Ambient Display-Always-on ambient display-Choose “All day” )
  • Zen Mode
    • Fixed the low probability issue that system settings interface stopped running when Zen Mode turned on

Further in the post, we can see that OnePlus warned users by saying,

Please keep in mind that this is beta software. These builds are sometimes not as stable as our official OTAs generally are. By installing this update, you accept the potential risks

Abdul also wanted us to know some more points before installing this update. He added,

  • If you have already flashed an Open Beta (you are currently running the latest Open Beta), you will receive this new build as an OTA.

  • If you are not running open beta software and would like to, please refer to the flashing instructions and the full ROM on the downloads page here.

  • Once you migrate to the Beta path, you will continue to receive Open Beta OTAs. You will no longer receive the regular Official Stable OTAs.

  • Moving back to the Official OTA path from the Beta path will require a full install and clean flash (full wipe of all data and cache).

Replying to this post, an OnePlus 8 Pro user gunnersteoh also shared a screenshot of this update.

In this screenshot, we can clearly see that the size of this update is a hefty 2.93GB. You can use the OxygenOS updater app to download this update.

Looking at the speed at which OnePlus is working on OxygenOS 11, we might be able to see a stable build of OxygenOS 11 before this year’s end.
