Google successfully extended its Pixel family with the launch of two new devices earlier this month. These were the Pixel 4A and Pixel 5 respectively. The two devices are not India bound and will not be sold here But, hey, when has that been an excuse for us to not discuss smartphones. The anticipation for Google Pixel 5 went a downhill journey of sorts when more and more specifications started getting leaked. The common notion was that this would go head-to-head with popular flagship devices of the day. However, with Snapdragon’s 765 SoC chipset, both Pixel 4A and Pixel 5 would stay shy of the true flagship DNA. We know Google and realise that they care little about how brilliant the smartphone looks on paper. It is always the in-hand experience where Google has always stood out. Talking about utility and Pixel devices, the new GCam 8.0 is here!
Why look forward to the new GCam 8.0?
First thing first, let’s look at what hardware exactly does the GCam 8.0 enhance and add to. Running Android 11 out-of-the-box, Google Pixel 5 houses a minimal (by today’s quad cam status) dual camera assembly. These are however a very impressive 12.2 MP primary shooter, and a 16-megapixel f/2.2 ultra wide lens. On the front is a f/2.0 8-megapixel single shooter. No extra facade from Google as always. The front and rear both have the capacity to shoot 4K videos at 60fps. That brings me to the real bonus, GCam 8.0. Thanks to Cinematic Pan, you can now handover Pixel 5 to an amateur to capture you in motion. Toggling between modes such as, Time-lapse and slow-motion is more convenient than ever. Even at 2X Zoom, the Locked mode in Video Stabilization ensures supreme stability, and you look like a pro.
The GCam 8.0 has officially been rolled out for the new members of the Pixel family. But, I guess you know what’s coming next. The update can be sideloaded in older Pixels too. So what are you waiting for, get your GCam 8.0 APK now!
