Dota 2 fans and pro players were hit with pretty devastating news yesterday as Valve indefinitely postpones International 2020. TI10 would have been the biggest tournament in the history of DOTA 2. But the coronavirus pandemic with no apparent end will make it impossible to hold any live events. The International 2020 then will probably happen next year. The fans though are worried about another implication, the Battle Pass 2020.
Every year in April, Valve launches the Battle Pass, 25% of the earnings of which make the prize pool of International. It is a nifty concept and one that enriches the community as well. Valve also announced that the Battle Pass is delayed too due to work from home being applied to developers.
When is Battle Pass 2020 Coming?
There is a certain pattern that Valve loves to follow with Battle Pass and that is Collector Cache. Every year players and fans get to show off their skills and love for the game by creating skins in the Workshop. The best of those skins are released as a treasure in the game. Collector Cache is released with the Battle Pass or near the vicinity of it.
The Official blog post of Valve announced a delay in the Collector Cache Call to Arms due to be released next week. We can expect that Battle Pass will soon follow the circle and be released on May 5th.
Another big question is where the money will go? Since the TI is cancelled or postponed, lots of fans and players think that the best use of the money will be to help with the charity of COVID-19. It is nice seeing the community bond and understand the global pandemic.
Our very own Nahaz Dota also stated that due to decreased cost of Production value and no incentive for investors, they should start crowdfunding for other events than TI too.
It’s time to start talking seriously about bringing back crowdfunding for #Dota2 events other than TI.
