There aren’t too many complex mechanics in R.E.P.O. All you need to remember is that this game emphasizes stealth more than combat. The monsters that roam the world are pretty powerful, so you’ll need to hide from them for the most part. Anyway, coming back to the topic, here is some basic information you need to know about the game as a beginner.
How to save?
Saving in R.E.P.O. is a bit different than other games. In R.E.P.O., you can’t save your progress directly. Each round you play is a save. If you close the game after clearing a level, then your progress will be saved until that level. It’s automatic. You don’t have the option to save manually. However, one thing to keep in mind is that if you and your teammates die in a level, which results in a Game Over, then your save will be wiped out. Yes, you will have to start from level 1 again. So, proceed through each level with full attention.
How to revive?
Reviving is a key aspect of the game, as dying is quite common. If you aren’t playing the game’s single-player mode, your teammates can revive you and vice versa. How? Whenever someone dies in-game, their corpse gets converted into a head. This head can be transported to the extractor when the quota is met. Once the extraction is complete, the downed player will be revived.
How to heal?
There are multiple ways to heal in the game. First is the basic way. Every time you enter the service station after each round, your HP is increased by 25. Next, you can buy the Small Health Packs (25 HP), Medium Health Packs (50 HP), and Large Health Packs (100 HP) from the Service Station and consume them to get some HP. However, if you are out of Health Packs in a round, you can ask your teammates to share some of their HP with you. After each level, you will be transported to the Service Station. This is a shop where all your character upgrades are available. How to deal with monsters?
Initially, there’s not much you can do to fight the vicious monsters in-game. You won’t have enough money to buy weapons at the beginning. So, the best course of action is to stay out of sight from these monsters. Crouch quickly to get out of their sight and hide under tables or beds. However, if you have the money, you can buy weapons to deal damage to them. The best way to deal damage to these monsters is by throwing grenades at them. However, if you come across gnomes, you can just pick them up and throw them.
How to lift heavy items?
If you’ve come across an item that is too heavy and very valuable, you won’t be able to lift it alone with your current strength status. If you are playing the multiplayer mode, then you can call your friends to lift the item together. But if you are playing solo, you will have to upgrade the Strength stat of your character using the Strength Upgrade to do the heavy lifting.
How to find an extraction point?
If there are multiple extractions to be done on a single level, you will have to find the next extraction point after each extraction since the current one will get destroyed. Now, you can always take the basic approach: traverse the whole area and find the extraction points yourself. Or you can use the Extraction Tracker, which helps to track extraction points. You can buy it from the Service Station. When used, this device shows the distance and direction of the next extraction point based on your current location.
Note: There can be only one extraction point active at once.
Use Push-to-talk
The monsters are quite sensitive to sound, and your consistent chatting with your friends via voice chat is all they need to locate you. So, to avoid unnecessary chaos, enable the Push-to-Talk option in the game’s Audio Settings menu. If a monster is near you, don’t speak.
Join Random Lobby?
As of now, you cannot join any random lobby by accessing a server list. You will need to invite players manually or get invited to be able to join. But the good thing is that the developers are working on an update that will bring this feature soon. So, stay tuned.
No loot to complete the quota?
If you have destroyed valuable loot and now can’t meet the quota for extraction, then you are partially softlocked. Since the valuables don’t respawn, the only way to get more items is to face the monsters head-on and kill them. They will drop loot for you to carry, so this is the only way you can get more items for extraction. These monsters respawn after regular intervals.
