Heroes of Hammerwatch II Multiplayer Not Working Issue Is there any fix yet

Earlier, we had the opportunity to play through the demo version of Heroes of Hammerwatch II. Now, the full game has been released, and many players are diving to check the fuss. The game offers multiplayer modes, but it is not working as intended for some reason. So, is there any fix yet for this? Let’s find out.

So far, all we know is that the latest patch that dropped on the 16th of Jan could be the culprit behind these issues. Almost all affected players have reported facing the issue since the latest patch went live. The question now is, have the devs acknowledged the issue? Have they suggested any fixes that could fix the issue? We have all the details regarding the same.

Thankfully, the developers are aware of the issue and they themselves shared a thread about it on the game’s Steam discussion forums. They too hinted at the new patch being the culprit behind these connectivity issues and have suggested some workarounds. Here are those dev suggestions and some player-suggested fixes you could try.

Rebooting PC

Before diving into more complex fixes, try rebooting your system. While doing so, make sure to unplug the wires and wait for some time before booting up and launching the game. Also, make sure all members in your lobby reboot before everyone tries attempting to join the game again. It has worked for some so do give it a shot!

Check Internet

Another potential fix is to check if your internet connection is stable and fast enough for online play. Check that your network isn’t experiencing disruptions, such as high latency or packet loss, by running a speed test. Restarting your router can help as well. Also, make sure you’re not downloading large files or streaming on the same network, as this could affect game performance. If possible, use a wired connection for better connectivity or switch networks altogether.

Verifying Integrity of Game Files

Steam’s “Verify Integrity of Game Files” function checks the game installation for missing or corrupted files. If it detects any discrepancies, it replaces the problematic files with the correct ones from Steam’s servers. To do this, right-click on the game in your Steam library. Select Properties and then head to the Installed Files tab. Click on Verify integrity of game files. After the scan is done, launch the game to check whether the issue persists.

Ensure Everyone Has the Latest Game Version

When playing online, version mismatches can cause connection issues. By verifying the game files, Steam will ensure that everyone is running the latest patch. So just to be on the safe side, cross-check with your party members and make sure everyone is running the same, preferably the latest version of the game.

The “net_testing” build

This build is a beta version of the game available on Steam that includes experimental changes and fixes that could help address network-related issues. While it may resolve connectivity problems, it has a known limitation: players who disconnect from a session will leave their characters in the game. This prevents progression until the disconnected player rejoins or their character is resolved manually. Because of this, it is better suited for private sessions with friends rather than public lobbies. To switch to this beta version:

  • Right-click on the game in your Steam library. Select Properties.
  • Navigate to the Betas tab. From the Beta Participation dropdown menu, choose the net_testing option.
  • Wait for Steam to download the necessary files for the beta build.

Note: It’s important to note that all players in the group need to switch to this beta version for compatibility. Once everyone has done this, you can attempt to reconnect and see if this fixes the issue.

VPN

If you make frequent use of a VPN service, disabling it may resolve the problem. To fix this, temporarily disable your VPN before launching the game and ensure other group members do the same. After playing, you can re-enable your VPN or use split tunneling (if supported) to exclude the game from VPN routing. This fix has worked for some players and is worth trying.

Well, those are all the effective workarounds we have for now. With the issue acknowledged, we are hoping that the developers will soon release a permanent fix for this.
