Best State of Decay 2 Steam Deck Settings for high FPS & performance (2)

When it comes to post-apocalyptic survival games, State of Decay 2 stands as a testament to the genre’s appeal. For over a decade, players have immersed themselves in its gritty world, facing down hordes of the undead while striving to rebuild society from the ruins of civilization. Despite the recent tease of a sequel at the latest Xbox Game Showcase, its release date remains to be announced and in the meantime, you can continue your undead odyssey on the Steam Deck with SoD 2. Now for optimal performance and maximum FPS on the Steam Deck, here are some recommended settings to make your State of Decay 2 experience better.

While you can play State of Decay 2 on the Steam Deck, it’s not officially Deck Verified and is only labeled as playable. So, it’s super important to use the right settings to get the best performance. Luckily, we’ve got some tips that have been tested and proven to work well. These settings can help you get better FPS and overall performance while playing on your Steam Deck.

To adjust the video settings in State of Decay 2 on your Steam Deck, simply go to the settings menu and select the Video and Advanced Video tab. From there, you can make the recommended changes listed below to improve your FPS and overall performance.

Video Tab

  • Field of View: Set the slider between 70 and 90.
  • Display Type: Fullscreen
  • Resolution: 1280×800 (8:5)
  • VSync: On
  • Motion Blur: Personal Preference

After making the changes, don’t forget to hit the “Apply Changes” button!

Advanced Video Tab

Now, under the Advanced Video Tab, use the following settings:

  • Default Quality: Custom
  • World Level Detail: Medium
  • Shadow Quality: Low
  • Foliage Quality: Medium
  • Texture Quality: Ultra
  • Post-Processing Quality: High
  • Effects Quality: Medium
  • Ambient Occlusion Quality: Medium
  • Anti-Aliasing Quality: Medium

With these settings, you can enjoy a consistent frame rate of 60 frames per second (FPS), with smooth and responsive gameplay without any stuttering or lag. Also, it is not just the frame rates! These settings will help maintain good visual quality and textures, so the game still looks impressive while you’re playing.

Other Settings?

Remember, these settings aren’t set in stone. If you’re willing to trade a slightly lower frame rate of around 40 to 50 FPS for better visuals, you can experiment with higher values in the advanced video settings tab. This will result in better-quality visuals at the expense of a few frames. Feel free to adjust these settings according to your preferences and hardware capabilities to find the perfect balance between performance and visual fidelity on your Steam Deck while playing State of Decay 2! Other than that, tools like Proton and CyroUtlities can always come in handy if you are struggling with performance on the Steam Deck.
