Best Lords of the Fallen Steam Deck Settings for High FPS & performance

With Lords of the Fallen earning the coveted “Deck Verified” status on the Steam Deck, it is slowly becoming a popular title among handheld gamers. This dark fantasy action RPG has drawn in many players with its challenging soul-like gameplay. Taking a soul-like adventure on the go is perhaps the best way to play for those who take this genre a bit more seriously. Now, as more Steam Deck users dive into the game, many are eager to optimize their experience by finding the best settings to ensure high FPS and performance. So, keep reading as we go through some recommended settings that will help Steam Deck users make the most out of their Lords of the Fallen experience.

In a game like Lords of the Fallen, having smooth performance and good frame rates is super important. It’s because the combat needs perfect timing, like dodging and attacking at just the right moment. If the game stutters or the frames drop, it messes up the timing, and you will end up dying at very crucial moments. This will be especially annoying when you have to take on difficult boss fights. Without a doubt, you want the game to run smoothly so you can focus on fighting enemies and not have to lose your grind to a performance dip.

To tweak the graphics settings in Lords of the Fallen on the Steam Deck, you can do it either from the main menu or while playing the game. But remember, the game can’t be paused, so be careful when adjusting settings while you’re in the middle of playing. Make sure you’re in a safe spot in the game before you mess with the settings, so you don’t get surprised by enemies. That being said, here are the settings you can change:

Display Settings

Under the Display settings tab, make the following changes:

  • Resolution: 1280 x 800
  • VSync: On
  • FPS Limit: Unlimited

Graphics Settings

  • Auto-detect quality: First, try a custom preset that we will recommend. If that does not work for you, feel free to auto-detect quality, and chances are, you will be advised to keep the low graphics preset.
  • Graphics preset: Custom
  • View distance: Low
  • Shadows: Low
  • Anti–aliasing: Low
  • Texture quality: Medium
  • Visual effect quality: Low
  • Post-processing quality: Low
  • Reflection quality: Low
  • Global illumination quality: Low
  • Foliage quality: Low
  • Motion blur: It depends on preference but we recommend keeping this option off.
  • Film grain: Off
  • Chromatic aberration: Off
  • Umbral Distortion Effect: On

Limit Refresh Rate and Use Proton

By pressing the three-dot button below the left trackpad on the Steam Deck, you can access a menu where you can limit the refresh rate of your Deck. Many players have discovered that capping it at 40 Hz (Hz) results in a lag-free experience with smooth frame rates. If you encounter further performance issues, consider switching to Proton Experimental or GE, as it seems to make the game a lot more enjoyable, according to the reports of the players.

And with those settings, you are all set to take on all the curveballs and boss fights the game has to throw at you on your Steam Deck.
