Inflexion Games’ highly anticipated game, Nightingale, was finally released on February 20, 2024. Currently, under early access, it’s a PVE open-world survival crafting title that you can enjoy either with friends or solo. The early reception for the game so far is pretty mixed, with the primary criticism being just how tedious the crafting feels right now. Besides that, Nightingale also suffers from a myriad of technical issues, which many players are looking to fix. And a major one happens to be the freezing issue.
This kind of issue is pretty common, irrespective of whether a game is in early access or not. Sometimes it happens due to missing game files, while in other instances, the cause could be the game consuming too many resources. Whatever the cause here is, we need a fix for this issue. So, let’s go ahead and find out if there are any.
Nightingale game freezing issue troubling players: Is there any fix yet
Since there’s no official fix for this issue right now, players will have to make do with the following workarounds. Try these and see if any of them are of help.
Repair the game files –
A pretty common cause behind issues like this could be missing or corrupted game files. And the only fix when that’s the case is to repair the game files. Now, if you don’t know how to do that, just follow the instructions given below:
- Launch Steam and navigate to Library.
- From the Steam Library, find Nightingale and right-click on it.
- Select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.
Install the game on SSD –
Some players were able to fix this issue by installing or moving the game to an SSD. So, if you haven’t tried this before, do so. SSDs are far better than HDDs, and nowadays it’s recommended to install games on SSDs. Try this and if it doesn’t help, switch to another workaround.
Update –
Make sure your GPU’s graphics drivers and the PC itself are up-to-date with the latest version available. This will help you avoid a ton of issues and could possibly help you deal with this one too. In case this one isn’t of help, check out the next method.
Run the game as an admin –
You can also try running Nightingale with admin access in order to resolve this issue. A lot of games require admin rights to run properly, so that could also be the case here with Nightingale. As such, we suggest you right-click on the game’s exe and select Properties. Switch to the Compatibility tab and check the Run this program as an administrator option. End the process by clicking on Apply and OK.
Change config –
A player was able to fix this issue by changing the game’s config. Now, we recommend you try this too. But first, you will need to navigate to Nightingale’s installation folder and find the GameUserSettings.cfg file in there. The file path should resemble something like this: “C: > Users > [YourUsername] > AppData > Local > NWX > Saved > Config > WindowsClient”. Here, look for a file named GameUserSettings as we stated earlier, and open it using Notepad. Next, copy-paste the following into the file:

Switch to Windowed Borderless –
Instead of running the game in Fullscreen, switch to Windowed Borderless. Doing this will be of great help in reducing stress on your PC, which in turn will help you avoid this issue.
Switch to a lower graphics preset –
Players can also switch to a lower graphics preset to get rid of the freezing issue. Just open the in-game settings and set everything to Medium or Low. While you are at it, make sure to drop Lumen from Max Quality to Balanced. Lumen is a big resource hogger, so dropping it down should help a ton.
