Pocket Pair’s Palworld took the gaming world by storm when it was released back as an early-access title on January 19, 2024. Despite a ton of issues, the game kept selling like hotcakes, eventually achieving 12 million copies sold on Steam alone, as of February 1. So far, it’s turned out to be the most successful launch of 2024 and that’s saying something when you have titles like Tekken 8, Persona 3 Reload, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and such. Now, as we stated before, Palworld happens to have a lot of issues, a good chunk of which are related to performance. And as such, players have been asking whether the game is CPU or GPU-intensive.
While Palworld might be the most successful launch of 2024, the game suffers from a long list of technical issues. From random fps drops to crashes, players have encountered it all. Some of these issues can be mitigated by knowing just how CPU or GPU-intensive the game is. So, without much further ado, let’s go ahead and find out.
Is Palworld CPU or GPU intensive?
Before we dive deep into this topic, let’s start by checking out Palworld’s both minimum and recommended system requirements in order to help you understand whether the game is CPU or GPU-intensive.
Minimum System Requirements
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
- Processor: i5-3570K 3.4 GHz 4 Core
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: GeForce GTX 1050 (2GB)
- DirectX: Version 11
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 40 GB available space
- Additional Notes: An Internet connection is required for multiplayer. SSD required.
Recommended System Requirements
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
- Processor: i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8 Core
- Memory: 32 GB RAM
- Graphics: GeForce RTX 2070
- DirectX: Version 11
- Network: Broadband Internet connection

CPU or GPU intensive?
Well, from what the system requirements here suggest, it looks like Palworld requires a much more capable GPU instead of a CPU. As evidenced by player responses like this, Palworld utilizes GPU more thanks to the open-world element of the game along with the game just being an early access title. One thing to note here is that Palworld isn’t particularly well-optimized. Even players with 4090s and most high-end builds are facing random fps drops. Likewise, there have also been reports of players hitting high CPU temperatures.
Another player mentioned how they were able to run the game on an i7-4th generation CPU but, at the same time, had trouble running the game due to the 1660 Super GPU. However, lowering the graphics helped a bit in getting stable fps. All in all, don’t expect a smooth gameplay experience due to the optimization issues. But you should be able to run the game at a stable fps if you have a “capable” GPU installed on your PC. And also, don’t forget to upgrade your RAM size if you happen to be going on an upgrading spree.
