Ubisoft’s Brawlhalla is one of the best platform fighters to play right now. Although Nintendo’s Super Smash Ultimate reigns supreme when it comes to platform fighters, Brawlhalla has garnered quite a good enough following since its launch in 2017. While the game is available on all major platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, many have enjoyed playing it on the Steam Deck too. However, it seems like players are facing some issues with their controllers on the Deck.
The issue here seems to be arising in both handheld and docked mode. As for the source of this issue, anything ranging from Proton compatibility to an outdated game could be the cause. So, can this issue be fixed? Well, yes, of course. So, without much further ado, continue reading for all the workarounds to resolve this issue.
Brawlhalla Steam Deck controller not working: How to fix it?
Well, for now, you will have to make do with the following workarounds in order to fix this issue:
Turn off the external controller –
If you have the Steam Deck docked and are using an external controller, you can try turning it on and off. This is what some players did, so give it a try. If the issue persists, switch to the next workaround.
Reboot the Deck –
Rebooting the Deck is a common method to fix issues like this one. All you need to do is hold down the power button on the Deck for about ten seconds and the device will automatically shut off. After that, just wait a few minutes and the Deck will power itself back on.
Use launch options –
Players can also try using launch options and see if that helps circumvent this issue. So, first, select Brawlhalla on your Deck and then click on the Menu or Options button on your Deck. Select Properties, switch to the General tab, and then paste the following into Launch Options: gamemoderun PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -noeac -high -unlockfps -framefixunbounded. After this, launch the game and then check if the issue persists.
Change Proton versions –
For some players, changing Proton versions was what helped them deal with this issue, so give it a try. Proton Experimental seems to be a pretty popular choice, so go with it first. Additionally, you can also choose Proton Experimental and then use the previous method.
Update –
A pretty common cause for issues like this one can be due to the game not being updated to the latest version. So, check if there’s an update available first. If there is, download and install it. We also recommend updating your Steam Deck.
Reinstall –
In case none of the aforementioned workarounds are of help, we recommend that you try reinstalling the game. Something like this can work at times, so try it once. If even this doesn’t work, we suggest contacting Ubisoft support.
