The Callisto Protocol was launched back on December 2, 2022, and what a disappointing release it was. While the visuals were some of the best, everything else was abysmal. The game suffered from a plethora of issues, including gameplay-related ones. However, these days, things have become somewhat better. Moreover, the game also got Steam Deck Verified. And while many certainly are enjoying the game on the handheld, it’s been reported that it frequently crashes on it. So, if you too are encountering the same issue, here’s how you can fix it.
It’s nigh impossible to find the root cause behind a common issue like this. For some, the issue could be a result of a DRM check failure, while for others, it could be due to something graphics-related. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s an unfixable issue. On the contrary, due to how common this issue is, there are a ton of workarounds for it. So, without further ado, continue reading for all the possible fixes for this issue.
Callisto Protocol crashing on Steam Deck: How to fix it?
We are yet to get an official fix for this issue, so you will have to make do with the following workarounds:
Check your internet connection –
Callisto Protocol is one of those games that uses Denuvo. And since the game constantly does DRM checks, it will simply crash if it finds that you are offline. So, the very first thing that we recommend you do is make sure that your internet connection is good and that the speed isn’t slow.
Update –
To avoid most issues like this, don’t forget to update both the game and the Steam Deck itself. Doing so will help you avoid a lot of issues, possibly including this one. However, if the issue persists, you can check out other workarounds.
Switch Proton Versions –
A pretty common workaround for crashing issues on the Deck is to simply switch Proton versions. Try every possible version and see which one minimizes the crashing. If you are still facing crashes, check out the next workaround.
Run everything on either medium or low –
The Callisto Protocol is a pretty demanding game and the Steam Deck is somewhat less powerful compared to the Legion Go and Rog Ally. So, what you should do is set the in-game settings to either medium or low. If you are fine with running the game at 30 fps, then consider limiting the FPS as well.
Use CryoUtilies –
CryoUtilies can also help you with dealing with this issue since it’s able to get more performance out of your Deck by applying some neat tweaks. As such, if you haven’t already tried using this method, we suggest you do so. And if you don’t know how to set up and install the app, here’s a guide for that.
And that’s all you need to fix this issue. Coincidentally, if you are facing the same issue with Tekken 7, here’s a guide on how to fix it. Lastly, keep following DigiStatement for more such content.
