Ryujinx crashing on Steam Deck: How to fix it?

The Steam Deck has become a favorite among many players and the recent release of the Steam Deck OLED has all but increased its popularity. One of the major reasons why the Steam Deck is popular among so many players is because it’s also a great handheld for emulation. From PS2 to the Nintendo Switch, the Deck offers a great way to play old and new titles on much better hardware with much better performance. However, it seems like some players are having some crashing issues with the Ryujinx emulator on their Deck.

Ryujinx, along with Yuzu, is one of the two Nintendo Switch emulators available for PC right now. And both of these are quite great at what they do. However, like anything, some players prefer Yuzu, while others prefer Ryujinx. Now, there could be a lot of reasons why Ryujinx is crashing on the Deck, ranging from firmware issues to something related to the game version. Players can try the following workarounds to deal with this issue. Use these and try not to skip them unless you have already tried a workaround before.

Update –

Well, the obvious first thing that we recommend you do is update. Do that with both the Steam Deck and the Ryujinx emulator. Now, if this one doesn’t help, you can switch to another workaround.

Restart –

You can also try restarting the emulator first and see if that helps. Additionally, if that doesn’t work, try restarting your Deck. This is a common troubleshooting method to deal with a variety of issues, so give it a try. If the issue persists, try the next fix.

Change firmware –

You can also try changing firmware and checking if that works for this issue. However, know that some games might not work with certain older firmware. But still, we recommend you try this fix, and if the issue continues to trouble you, use another method.

Check game compatibility –

A major reason behind this crash could be that your game isn’t playable at all on the emulator. So, what you should do is head to this link, and check your game’s compatibility on the emulator.

Change game version –

Maybe the reason you are getting so many crashes on your Steam Deck is because of your game versions. So, what we recommend you do here is try changing game versions. This might or might not work, but nevertheless give it a try once. You can also try installing an older version of the Ryujinx emulator and then check if the issue persists.

Use CryoUtilites –

CryoUtilities can help you gain more performance out of your Steam Deck, so we suggest you try that. Now, if you don’t know how to set up and install the app, here’s a guide that will explain it thoroughly.

Reinstall –

If none of the methods that we suggested before worked for you, then the only other fix that remains is to reinstall the emulator. Do that and then check if the crashing issue persists.

And that’s all you need to fix this issue. Additionally, if you are facing the same issue with the Dolphin emulator on your Steam Deck, check out this guide. For more content like this, keep following DigiStatement. Also, read: Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising Steam Deck Support & more details
