So, continue reading to wave goodbye to corrupted saves and get back to enjoying the wild ride of Sunset Overdrive on your Steam Deck!

Sunset Overdrive on Steam Deck hasn’t been a pleasing experience for players as the game is consistently crashing, accompanied by a persistent problem involving a corrupted save. So, when players launch the game, it claims there’s a corrupted save, even though they haven’t played the game before. Deleting the so-called “corrupt” save doesn’t solve the problem, and it keeps popping up. It’s a frustrating situation, leaving players in dire need of a fix. So, if you too are encountering the same, we have shared some workarounds for you to try.

If you’re seeing a “corrupted save” message when you start Sunset Overdrive on your Steam Deck or Windows, don’t panic; it’s not a big deal. You can safely ignore this message. Even though there’s a save slot labeled “corrupted”, it’s best not to delete it. This issue seems linked to a file in the Steam Cloud save within the game’s save folder. The good news is that, despite the message, you can still play the game without any problems. Auto-saving works fine, and you can use the other available save slots as usual. So, go ahead and enjoy your Sunset Overdrive adventure without worrying about that little hiccup! The message might seem alarming, but it won’t impact your ability to play the game or save progress. However, if you’d prefer to get rid of the message, here’s a step-by-step guide.

Fix

This fix has successfully resolved the problem for a majority of players, allowing them to play the game again without running into any corrupted save file crashes, ruining their experience. So, to apply this fix, follow the given steps:

  • First and foremost, you will have to locate the Save Folder of the game on your Deck. For the most part, to access your saved file, open your Home folder and find the path “/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/847370/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Sunset/Saves/YOURSAVEFOLDERNUMBER/”.
  • Inside the “Saves” folder, look for a file named “steam_autocloud.vdf“.
  • Delete this file. It won’t harm your game progress, and removing it can resolve the “corrupted save” message.
  • Next, you will have to adjust the Steam Cloud Settings. For this, go to your Steam library, find Sunset Overdrive, and open the Options menu.
  • Now, select “Properties”.
  • In the Properties window, uncheck the option that says “Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud”.

By following these steps, you’re essentially clearing a file that might be causing the error. Don’t worry; your game progress will be just fine, and you won’t see that pesky “corrupted save” message anymore.
