Born from a DLC idea to a fully-fledged standalone game, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an earnest attempt from Ubisoft to make the game feel as close to the original trilogy as possible. And judging by the reviews of games so far, the developers were more or less able to do that. But AC Mirage is far from a perfect game. It has its flaws in both gameplay and technical aspects. But for the moment, we will be discussing one of the many technical problems infesting the game right now: the controller/gamepad not working issue that many have reported.
We can’t really say what causes this issue to occur, despite the game having full-fledged controller support. There could be a ton of reasons why this is happening, ranging from a faulty controller to missing or corrupted game files. The thing is, it’s pretty hard to find one single root cause behind such a common issue. However, due to its prevalence in almost all games, there are multiple workarounds you can try to fix. Well, we have shared the most effective workarounds for this issue in this guide. So, consider reading until the end.
Assassin’s Creed (AC) Mirage Controller/Gamepad Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet
Players can use the following workarounds to bypass this issue and get back to enjoying their adventure. Try not to skip these workarounds unless you have already tried them once.
Restart –
Time and time again, restarting has helped deal with a plethora of issues. This time, it could help you resolve this too. So, perform a restart of the game first and see if that helps. If not, try restarting the Ubisoft Connect or Epic Games launcher, your controller, and lastly, your PC or console itself. If the issue remains, try the next workaround.
Add AC Mirage to Steam and launch it from there –
Since AC Mirage is available via Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store on PC, you can try adding the game via Steam and launching it via the client to check if the issue persists. For this:
- Open Steam and head to Library.
- From there, click on Add a game > Add a Non-Steam Game. Find and select Assassin’s Creed Mirage from the list of installed applications on your PC. In case you are unable to find it, click on Browse, and then head to the game’s installation directory to add its .exe file.
- Once AC Mirage has been added to Steam, launch it from there and check if you still encounter this issue.
Disable Steam Input (after adding AC Mirage to Steam as a non-Steam game) –
Now that you’ve added the game to Steam, try disabling Steam input to see if it gets rid of the issue or not. In case you don’t know how, follow the steps mentioned below –
- Open Steam and your Library to find Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
- Right-click on the game and select Properties.
- Switch to the Controller tab and choose the Disable Steam input option from the drop-down menu.
- Now, launch the game, and check if the issue persists.
Use Steam Big Picture Mode (after adding AC Mirage to Steam as a non-Steam game) –
Using the Big Picture Mode feature of Steam could prove effective enough in dealing with this issue. After you have added the game to Steam, all you need to do is click on the monitor-like icon located at the top right corner of the Steam client, beside the minimize and close options. After entering Big Picture mode, launch the game and see if the controller works.
Repair files –
If the game happens to be missing some of its crucial files, it will start producing issues such as this. The best way to fix this is to simply repair the game’s files. To do that –
Epic Games Launcher –
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and select Library from the left panel.
- Find Assassin’s Creed Mirage and select the three dots next to the game’s name.
- Choose Manage > Verify and wait until the verification process is over.
Ubisoft –
- Open Ubisoft Connect and switch to the Games tab.
- Go to the Assassin’s Creed Mirage page, and select Properties. Now, select the Verify files option.
- After the files have been repaired, close the window and launch the game.
Check whether your controller is officially supported or not –
Ubisoft did share a list of officially supported peripherals for the game. So, we suggest you take a look at the list below and check whether your controller appears on the list. Do note that even if your controller isn’t on the list, it might work as well. However, since it is not officially supported, you will most likely have to use a third-party application.

Update controller –
Controllers these days need to be updated frequently. So, if you are behind on your controller updates, we suggest you download and install the latest firmware update ASAP. It is better to consult the controller’s manual to learn how to install updates. Once all the updates have been installed, launch the game and see if the controller issue persists.
Switch to Wired –
Sometimes wireless connections might not work properly, resulting in issues such as this one. Switching to wired will completely mitigate that. So, connect your controller to your system via the official cable, and check if the issue persists.
Use another controller –
If you’ve got another controller, we suggest you turn it on and try connecting it. This way, you can properly deduce whether the issue is with your controller or the game itself. If the issue seems to be with the controller, you can either repair it or get a brand-new one. And if the fault lies with the game itself, just perform a reinstall.
