After making the changes, go back to Steam, launch the game, and check whether in-game saves work now.
Verify OneDrive Settings
Another thing that many players noticed was that OneDrive’s automatic backup of the “Documents” folder might interfere with the game’s save functionality. To address this, here are the steps you need to take:
- Make a local backup of your important files in the “Documents” folder.
- Disable OneDrive syncing for the “Documents” folder.
- Restore the default target for your local “Documents” folder.
Note: While we are talking about cloud storage, we recommend uninstalling or temporarily disabling cloud storage sync services like Google Drive and OneDrive, as they might alter the file paths or permissions, causing issues.
Try a Different Windows Account/Run as Admin
Creating a new local Windows account with default settings might help identify if the issue is account-specific. Some apps or settings may interfere with game functionality, even if they haven’t caused issues in the past. Also, make sure that you run the game with administrator privileges. To do this, right-click on the game’s executable file and select “Run as administrator”.
Whitelist the game
Now, if you are using any antivirus software or Windows firewall, it may sometimes block the game from running properly. To fix this, you need to add Starfield’s executable file to the whitelist of your antivirus software or Windows firewall. Doing so should enable the game to save your in-game progress, which might have been blocked.
Verify Game Files
You can also try verifying the game files of Starfield to make sure that corrupted files aren’t the cause of this issue. So, what you need to do is go to the Steam client, select Library, right-click on Starfield, and select Properties.
