The sequel to 2019’s indie, side-scrolling, Souslike-inspired Metroidvania, Blasphemous 2, has finally been released for Windows, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and, of course, the Xbox Series X/S. Developed by The Game Kitchen and published by Team17, fans of the first game had been waiting for a long time to play the sequel. Following its release on August 24, 2023, it received wide praise from critics for its story and general improvement over the first game. But Blasphemous 2 does suffer from some technical issues. The” unable to move after a cutscene” issue is a major one.
This particular issue makes it so that the player character can’t perform its movement action. Some players have found that this becomes active as early as after the opening cutscene in the game. Not being able to move after a cutscene isn’t ideal, and the community has been quite upset about this. Essentially, this issue makes the game entirely unplayable. So, is there any fix for this issue? Let’s find out!
Blasphemous 2 Unable to Move After Cutscene Issue: Is there any fix yet
Since the root cause of this issue is yet to be found, players should make do with the following workarounds. Follow these one by one and see which one proves useful.
Restart the game –
This should be an obvious yet effective workaround for most players. When it comes to most issues, performing a restart needs to be the first thing you do. If the issue persists, then you can move on to the next method.
Verify integrity of files –
A major reason behind this issue could be that the game is missing some crucial files. But fret not! There’s an easy way to deal with that. What you need to do is open Steam and then navigate to Library. Once you are in, click on Blasphemous 2 and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Wait until Steam finishes the process, and then run the game to see if you still encounter the issue.
Check your input device –
Whether you are using a keyboard and mouse or a controller, you should ensure that they are working fine with no issues to speak of. The reason your character is unable to move could simply be that the input device is malfunctioning. That’s why we suggested this method.
Heal yourself –
This particular workaround is in context with the opening cutscene. Players start the game with half their health and two Bile Flasks. Immediately consume one flask to fill your health bar. Once that’s done, press the movement key on your input device and see if the player character moves.
Redownload –
The last workaround is redownloading the whole game. Save your progress either on the cloud or locally. After that, delete the game, and then following that, start a re-download. Check if the issue still exists after a fresh installation.
That said, we hope now you know how to deal with this issue in Blasphemous 2. For more guides and info on the game, check out DigiStatement. Also, read: Is there a Blasphemous 2 PS4, & Xbox One Release Date
