If you are a fan of management strategy games, then you might have come across the name – Gaming Minds Studios. The German video game development studio is known for developing the Port Royale and Railway Empire series. And on May 25, we got the sequel to 2018’s Railway Empire. Titled Railway Empire 2, the game lets you take on the role of an entrepreneur who must grow and expand the railway business while simultaneously dealing with competitors. Reception around the game has been pretty mixed, with most of its criticism going around the fact that the sequel doesn’t offer much to the players to warrant being called a sequel and the $49.99 price tag. Furthermore, selling the manual as DLC also doesn’t help improve the studio’s image. All these issues aside, players have been reporting quite a few major bugs and errors in the game. A major one being the Internal Error.
It would have been a lot better if Gaming Minds Studios had kept working on Railway Empire 2 instead of releasing it in its current state. Trying to rush out games has never resulted in the community going gaga over a game. This isn’t to say that Railway Empire 2 is a bad game per se. It’s just that the price-to-content ratio doesn’t actually fit. And with players experiencing issues like the internal error, it would have been better if the developers conducted a beta or simply stretched the development window.
Railway Empire 2 Internal Error: How to fix
Well, although there isn’t an official fix for this issue yet, we have a workaround that could fix the problem for good. A player was able to solve this error by deactivating the Controlled Folder Access option in the Windows settings. But what is Controlled Folder Access exactly? Well, it is an integral part of the Windows security environment. In Microsoft’s own words –
“Controlled folder access in Windows Security reviews the apps that can make changes to files in protected folders and blocks unauthorized or unsafe apps from accessing or changing files in those folders.”
Well, although this feature is essential, it can sometimes block game files and thereby cause errors. The same has been the case for RE 2 players. Now, to deactivate it, go to Windows Settings and select Update & Security. Next, click on “Virus & Threat Protection” to proceed further. From the options presented, choose Manage Settings. Under the Controlled Folder Access option, opt for Manage Controlled Folder Access. For the last part, all you need to do is turn off the Controlled folder access setting.
This will most likely fix the internal error occurring in Railway Empire 2. Do note that you would need to have real-time protection turned on if you want to mess around with the Controlled Folder Access option. Also, if you are using a third-party antivirus program, make sure to either add the game’s installation directory to its exception list or disable the antivirus program while launching the game. This should fix the issue.
There’s no denying the fact that Railway Empire 2 has issues. Some are more critical than others. However, we do believe that the developers are actively working on fixing these issues. You can also wait for an official patch to drop and resolve this issue if you are not comfortable tinkering around with the settings.
