The Lord of the Rings: Gollum: How to disable Motion Blur

Daedalic Entertainment, the video game development studio most famously known for its point-and-click adventure games, recently released The Lord of the Rings: Gollum on May 25th, 2023. The game is a massive shift from Daedalic’s usual projects. But their first try has not been great at all. Lotr: Gollum is buggy, poorly optimized, and not at all fun to play. At least that’s what the reviewers are saying about the game. However, all this hasn’t deterred some people from trying it out. Well, if you are reading this guide, then you are most likely unable to find the motion blur option in the game.

Lord of the Rings fans are in a dry spell when it comes to good games. The Tolkien Estate seems to be handing out licenses left and right without even giving any thought to the output. No one would have guessed that Daedalic Entertainment would be making a LotR game, but here we are. The Hamburg-based video game developer and publisher did try to make an interesting game but unfortunately couldn’t do so. The technical capabilities of the development team seem not to have been enough to produce an enjoyable experience. At least the players have options to customize the in-game settings to enjoy it as per their preference. But what about motion blur? Is it available? If yes, then where is the setting?

Unfortunately, at the time of writing this article, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum doesn’t offer players the option to disable motion blur. For some unknown reasons, the developers decided not to include the motion blur toggle option. This is kind of strange considering the Graphics menu has lots of settings ranging from Vertical Sync to something as mind-boggling as “Gollum Hair Simulation”.

For a game retailing at $59.99, there seem to be a lot of missing features. Indie games offer better settings than whatever Daedalic Entertainment has put out in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. We are not going to sugarcoat it. The motion blur in this game is absolutely horrendous. And, mixed with the bad optimization, it’s not particularly looking good for both the game and the studio.

A game not having the motion blur toggle option in 2023 is like Nintendo putting their first-party titles on 50% sale. Both are highly unusual. If you go to the Graphics settings in TLOTR: Gollum, there’s a plethora of options to customize. Gamma Correction, Ray Tracing Mode, Anti-Aliasing, Shadow Quality, Texture Quality, and View Distance are just some of those customizable options. But no sign of Motion Blur.

Why Daedalic Entertainment decided to add “Gollum Hair Simulation” as an option instead of motion blur is something they only know and understand. We certainly hope that they introduce the motion blur toggle in a future update. The community is already unhappy with the current state of the game, and delaying critical features like this will only result in a dwindling player base, although the damage has already been done.
