God of War Ragnarok is finally here gamers! And it is here to stay. Get your gear ready and plug in your Playstation console if you haven’t already. We say this because this will be a long journey, longer than the last one at least. Santa Monica Studios, which is the developer of the game, has had plenty of time to make this title and they have surely delivered a brilliant one. The game was reviewed by big critics like IGN, Metacritic, and IMDb too. Luckily they all agree on one thing: It is an absolute masterpiece! Sadly despite this, the game does suffer from some issues that players have been facing. Many who got their hands on God of War Ragnarok argued the game was not loading or even launching on their PS4 and PS5.
This is quite a sad start for a game of this intensity. Imagine you being ready to traverse all 9 realms and hoping to meet iconic characters, but sadly your game doesn’t even launch on your console. Or even if it did start, it does not load properly or keeps buffering. This comes as a huge disappointment and is a major turn-off. Well, a similar problem has been faced by the enthusiastic players of God of War Ragnarok. As per reports, they kept waiting and waiting, but the game didn’t seem to start. Naturally, after a long battle with this problem, the fans need an answer for the same. That is why we shall discuss whether there is any fix for the game not launching or loading issue on the PS consoles. Let us dive right in.
God of War Ragnarok not loading & launching on PS4 & PS5: Is there any fix yet?
There are a couple of ways you can try to solve the problem. Here are some of them which helped most players:
Uninstall/Reinstall
Sometimes it happens that there is a minor bug in the game that can slow it down or restricts its launch. To solve it, try to reinstall the game after uninstalling it. Go to the Console Storage option, select the Apps and Games option, and then highlight the game and select Delete. This will uninstall your game. You can then reinstall the game by re-inserting your disc into the console. However, if you own a digital copy, install it from the PS Store after uninstalling.
Check if there is a System update available
To make sure that your consoles are in perfect shape, consider going to the Settings of your console and selecting the System Software update option. Then, you need to check if your console has a software update pending. If it is there, simply follow the instructions on your screen and install/download updates. Then, reboot your PS4/PS5.
Try Restarting Console
There might be some minor glitch in your console system and all it sometimes requires is a restart. Make sure you restart your console and then launch the game, in case the error isn’t fixed yet.
Make sure your console is not overheating
Sometimes, playing games and forgetting about your console’s health can be detrimental. As a result of this, your console might have overheated. The common signs your system is overly heated are game lags, increased load times, and game freezing. If you see any of these, your PS console might need some rest. So, have a stroll for some time and return back to enjoy the game at its full glory.
Rebuild Database
To do this, first, power down your PS5 console and unplug the main power cable. Then, after replugging > Hold the power button until you hear two beeps. > Connect your controller with a USB cable > press the PS button > use D-pad to navigate to “Clear cache and Rebuild the database.” Select the Rebuild Database option and confirm the selection. After this, restart your console and try launching the game.
Check your Console’s storage
At times, your games might be lagging and not launching due to low storage space. To make sure you are not low on space, go to your Settings menu > Storage. You can select it further to see the exact storage left in your console. Remember that God of War Ragnarok needs at least 95 to 100 GB to work efficiently. Make sure to delete unnecessary data and make space for the game so it performs well.
Hard Reset (Last Resort)
This is something to be used only as a last resort if all methods fail. The reason we are saying this is that this process will completely erase all your data from the console. It formats your console fully. Here are the steps to do it: Go to Settings > Initialization tab > Initialize PS4 or PS5 (as per your console) > Select “full”. This will make your console reset everything. Once this is done, log into your account, download the game again and then launch it.
