How to turn off cloud storage PS5

PlayStation 5 is the newest entry into Sony’s console lineup and it brings with it the new generation of console gaming. Years of advancement in technology have made it capable of running games in 4K at 60fps and 120fps at 1080p which was previously unheard of for a console. In addition to this, the system also has a default cloud storage mode where all your data from the PS4/ PS5 can be downloaded and saved. It is also cross-compatible with a PS4 controller and all the games for the PS4. In this article, we will talk about how to turn off cloud storage PS5.

How to turn off cloud storage PS5

On the PS4, PlayStation Plus members could opt to store their saved game clips, screenshots and other information in the cloud. This meant that there was more space available for them to use on the console itself. All that was required for this feature was a reliable internet connection and the data could be backed up to the cloud. In addition to this, the data backed up could also be downloaded to the PS5 when it was released and made it possible for progress to be saved across console generations. The PS5 however, complicates things significantly.

How to turn off cloud storage PS5?

There is no actual way to turn off cloud storage in the PS5. There is an option to disable it automatically stopping syncing with the cloud but that means you will have to do it manually. It is not a surefire way to disable cloud storage but it will prevent data from automatically being sent to the cloud. If you would like to adjust this, the steps are as follows;

  1. Go to SETTINGS
  2. Here, click on SYSTEM>POWER>FEATURES AVAILABLE IN REST MODE and toggle the STAY CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET option on.
  3. Next, go back to SETTINGS and then head to SAVED DATA AND GAMES.
  4. Here, you can choose to adjust the automatic sync to cloud settings based on the console chosen. The PS5 will not have an option to disable cloud saves but will only allow you to prevent automatic syncing with the cloud.

When you disable automatic sync with the cloud, you effectively disable not the cloud saving but the syncing with the cloud of the games. This means for progress to be saved outside of your device, you will need to manually save the data from the game to the cloud. If you do not do this, you will not be able to keep your progress across devices or current on other devices where you play.
