7 Days to Die Dew Collector: How to get & use

Officially released on December 13, 2013, as an early access title (alpha development), 7 Days to Die doesn’t seem to be a game fading away with time. According to Steam Charts, June 2023 saw the game get an average of 32K players overall, with a peak player count of 73K. That’s the kind of number that most games find hard to achieve. And despite 7 Days to Die being such an old game, it still caters to an average player count above 10,000. A true testament to the developer’s commitment to making the game fun and accessible. Now, because 7 Days to Die is so old, the amount of content it has gotten over the years can be hard for new players to completely learn in a short amount of time. And if you happen to be reading this article, then you must be searching for a way to get and use the Dew Collector in the game.

The Dew Collector is a new item introduced in the latest major update, Alpha 21. Lots of in-game mechanics were improved and rebalanced upon its release, and one of them was related to water collection. Empty jars and cans were removed from the game and were instead replaced by Dew Collectors. So, players will now need to craft this new item if they want to stay hydrated and avoid the “Game Over” screen. And so, here’s a guide you can use to learn about using and crafting the Dew Collector in 7 Days to Die.

7 Days to Die Dew Collector: How to get & use

Just like most craftable items in 7 Days to Die, to get and use the Dew Collector, you will first need to acquire the ability to craft one. How? By collecting Forge Ahead magazines. These are usually found in workstations (destroyed), including the forge, workbench, chem station, and cement mixer. If you are unable to find them, you might want to consider investing a skill point in the Advanced Engineering perk to increase your chances of finding one. Now, to craft the Dew Collector, you need to ensure that you have achieved level 2 in Workbench Crafting. One single Dew Collector needs the following materials to craft:

  • 4x Duct Tape (can be acquired by looting Zombies, and containers)
  • 100x Scrap Polymers (can be acquired by harvesting them from plastic objects including traffic cones, trash, and even tires)
  • 1x Water Filter (can be acquired from traders)
  • 4x Short Iron Pipes (can be acquired as normal loot from various containers, or by harvesting blocks via the Disassembly tool)

After you are in possession of all these materials, you will be able to craft your very own Dew Collector. So, now that you know about all the prerequisites to crafting a Dew Collector, let’s talk about using it correctly.

As the name itself suggests, Dew Collectors are crafted for the sole purpose of collecting dew and rainwater. Nothing more, nothing less! As such, after crafting them, it’s recommended to place them under clear, open skies. Now, they also produce heat, so if you are planning to make more than four or five Dew Collectors, don’t place them in your base but somewhere nearby instead.

Dew Collectors take a considerable amount of time to fill up. So, we always suggest you craft more than one. That way, you don’t have to worry about exhausting your supply. Each collector has the ability to collect three jars of water every 24 hours. Check them regularly and empty them when they are nearly full so that they can keep collecting and producing clean water for you.

With that said, we certainly hope that this article has helped you in some way to get everything you wanted to know about the Dew Collectors in 7 Days to Die. For more guides like this, don’t forget to follow DigiStatement. Also read: 7 Days to Die Bedroll: How to Use
