Zenless Zone Zero marks HoYoverse’s entry into the cyberpunk genre, delivering a polished urban fantasy experience set in the futuristic city of New Eridu. The game centers around interdimensional anomalies called Hollows that threaten the city’s stability, creating a compelling backdrop for its narrative-driven gameplay.
Players assume the role of a Proxy, a special guide who helps navigate these dangerous dimensional rifts. The story balances everyday life management with high-risk missions, creating an engaging dual-layer narrative that grounds the elements in relatable scenarios.
The combat system has refined action RPG mechanics built around a three-agent team structure. Players can seamlessly switch between characters mid-combat, executing combo chains and timing-based defensive maneuvers. Each agent has distinct combat roles and abilities, from damage dealers to support specialists, which opens up opportunities for strategic team composition and tactical play.
Zenless Zone Zero’s standout feature is its exceptional presentation quality. The game features fluid animation systems and a dynamic soundtrack that enhances the urban atmosphere. While following the free-to-play gacha model, the game provides generous returns on player investment through progression systems and quality-of-life features.
Zenless Zone Zero: How to trigger Aftershock?
Zenless Zone Zero’s 1.6 update dropped a game-changer with Aftershock mechanics. Though it might seem to be a bit tricky, here’s a breakdown of the actual mechanics.
Think of Aftershock as a fancy follow-up attack that only three characters can pull off right now: Silver Soldier Anby, Pulchra, and Trigger.
Anby’s steps: Consume three White Thunder stacks with Azure Flash to unleash Thunder Smite, typically by hitting the same target to unleash the Thunder Smite.
Pulchra’s exact sequence: First, get her into Hunter’s Gait state by using EX Special or performing an Evasion Assist. Switch her to off-field, then when your active character lands any heavy Special Attack or EX Special Attack on an enemy, Pulchra automatically counters with Rending Claw – Nightmare Shadow for Aftershock damage.
Trigger’s mechanics: Build Purge resource by Basic Attacking in Sniper Stance. Once off-field with Purge available, she’ll automatically fire Harmonizing Shot whenever allies hit enemies with Basic Attacks, Dodge Counters, Special Attacks, Dash Attacks, or Quick Assists. Land EX Specials, Assist Follow-ups, or Ultimates to trigger her stronger Harmonizing Shot (Tartarus) variant.
