Players looking to enjoy Wild Hearts are met with tons of bugs and glitches. According to the reports, one such issue is preventing the players from naming their characters. They are stuck at the Player Name Selection screen. This screen appears after you finish the general character customization in the game. Since players are unable to bring up the on-screen keyboard to type the name, they are also unable to proceed further. So, if you are also wondering how to fix this issue, then you have come to the right place.
Wild Hearts is a unique take on the monster hunter genre. While other titles make you struggle too much and feel helpless, Wild Hearts gives you weapons and tech to deal with the giant beasts. Now, this does not mean that the game is easy. You will still need to spend a good chunk of time learning and mastering various gameplay mechanics. Unfortunately, a lot of players haven’t been able to do so. This is mainly due to the countless bugs that infest the game. Fortunately, the devs have started rolling out patches to fix most of the problems.

Wild Hearts Stuck at Player Name Selection Screen: Is there any fix yet?
So, unfortunately, there is no official fix for the Wild Hearts “Stuck at Player Name Selection Screen” issue yet. Players are quite disappointed because it’s been quite a few days since the game rolled out. A lot of people haven’t been able to even open the game. The recent patch update also did nothing to resolve this issue. Though, there are a couple of workarounds that might help you out. We have listed all of them below.
1) Restart the game-
It is possible that Wild Hearts was unable to launch properly. This can cause various bugs and glitches in the game. So, we recommend restarting the game and then checking if the issue persists.
2) Disconnect extra peripherals-
Folks need to make sure that they have not connected too many peripherals to their PC, PlayStation, or Xbox when playing Wild Hearts. Video games sometimes recognize other peripherals as a keyboard or a mouse. Hence, you will be unable to type the name using the primary input device.
3) Reconnect your input devices-
After you disconnect all the extra peripherals, make sure to reconnect your default input device. This includes the controller, keyboard, and mouse. Also, make sure that your controller is fully charged and that your keyboard or your mouse does not have a loose connection.
4) Complete the tutorial again-
One of the EA Community Managers suggested that players complete the opening tutorial once again. While this is a hassle, you will be able to type your character’s name again after doing this.
5) Delete the save data and then reinstall the game-
One user was able to fix this issue after reinstalling Wild Hearts. But, you will first need to delete the saved data from your system. To do this on Xbox, close Wild Hearts and then press the Xbox button to open the menu. Now, go to My games & apps> See All, and then highlight Wild Hearts. Now, press the Menu button on your controller and then enter the Manage game and add-ons menu. Next, delete the game’s saved data from this folder.
It is relatively easier to delete the save data on PS5. To do this, go to Settings> Saved Data and Game/App Settings. Now, select the Saved Data option from the menu. Next, click on the Console Storage and then select Delete.
As for PC, you will need to go to This PC and then head over to Documents. Here, look for the My Games folder and open it. Inside, you will find the Wild Hearts folder with all your saved files. Once you delete all the files, uninstall the game and then reinstall it after some time.
6) Minimize the game and use your mouse (PC)-
PC users can use a trick to bring up the on-screen keyboard to type the character’s name and pronouns. To do this, press the At+Enter keys to exit Fullscreen. Now, use your mouse to click on the name box. This will allow you to type the name.
7) Repair the game files-
It is possible that you might be facing this issue due to missing or corrupt game files. You can easily resolve this issue through Steam. To do this, follow these instructions-
- Launch the Steam Client.
- Go to Library.
- Right-click Wild Hearts and select Properties.
- Head over to the Local Files tab.
- Click on the Verify integrity of the game files option.
8) Update the game-
As we mentioned before, the devs are rolling out hotfix patches to fix these types of issues in the game. So, make sure to keep your game up to date.
