The term “onyx” in Halo Infinite simply refers to a rank level in the game. Likewise, it is a level of rank where players reach a higher tier of the game’s ranking system. Players who have reached the “onyx” rank level receive an MMR rating of 1,500. This system is very useful to maintain proper balance in the upper echelon of the rankings. The MMR rating is therefore just a skill rating that players can continue to level up. Thus, it is not so dissimilar to the previous lower ranks.

What is the importance of Onyx?

An Onyx rank is very important as it is one of the most coveted ranks in the game. Likewise, players have to play really well in order to just get to this rank. Reaching this level of the ranking system is not an easy task. Consequently, only 5% of the total number of players are in this rank level. This means that players in this rank are better than 95% of the total players in the game. Additionally, having a ranking system like the one here is a good measurement of a player’s skill level.

There are currently a total of six major rank levels in the game. This includes – Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Onyx. Thus, the ability to reach the maximum level of Onyx in the game’s ranking system is a valuable badge of honor.
