Over the years, ConcernedApe’s Stardew Valley has become synonymous with the farm-sim genre. Originally released for Windows on February 26, 2016, the game quickly generated a lot of positive reception from both players and critics alike. Today, Stardew Valley is available on multiple platforms, and it has already sold over 20 million copies since 2022. With all these praises and achievements, Stardew Valley is nowadays the game to recommend when somebody wants to dip their hands in the farm-sim genre. However, for new players, certain things can be quite confusing. Take, for example, this explosion thing that this guide is focused on.
One of the reasons why so many players recommend Stardew Valley for those new to the farm-sim genre is because the game is very simple and a lot easier to get into. But even SV has its fair share of intricacies. Now, you might be flabbergasted by the term “explosion” you are hearing about in a game like this, but rest assured, by the end of this guide, you will know everything that’s there to know about it.
What does an explosion mean in Stardew Valley?
There are a lot of random events in Stardew Valley, and an explosion is one of them. When an explosion occurs, the players get the following message in the morning: An explosion was heard in the night…
But what’s this explosion exactly? Well, it’s actually a meteorite. The chances of this random event occurring are quite rare. 1%, to be specific. Before occurring, the event randomly chooses a 3×3 area on your farm, and then it will check if you’ve also got a 2×2 area free area within its previously chosen area. The free area here refers to an area free of water, farm animals, buildings, and such. Due to this, the meteor only lands on crops or an empty patch of land.
Now, unlike some other random events, this one has a chance to negatively affect you. Why? Because the meteor destroys anything it lands on, which, in almost all cases, happens to be crops. So, if you’ve got a solid bunch of profitable crops going around and the meteor lands on some, be ready to face some losses. However, in the grand scheme of things, it isn’t really that much of a headache.
For early and mid-game players, the meteor can be their very first source of iridium. However, for that, you will need to mine it, and a simple pickaxe wouldn’t do a thing. To break the meteor, you need to get a gold pickaxe. And for that, you need 5x Gold Bars and 10000g. Once you have these two, head to Clint’s and upgrade your Steel Pickaxe to a Gold Pickaxe.
After your pickaxe is upgraded, hit the meteor several times, and it will break. You will get the following items from breaking the meteor:
- 2x Geodes
- 6x Stone
- 6x Iridium Ore
