After being in early access for almost two years, Stunlock Studios finally released their action RPG, V Rising, on May 8, 2024. The game was released to wide critical appreciation. It had already sold 4 million copies during its early access, making it both a critical and financial success for Stunlock. Right now, the game’s available for PC, with a PS5 version set to release on June 11, 2024. And since it’s on PC, many are also enjoying the game on their PC handhelds like the Steam Deck. Unfortunately, some have reported an issue where the Deck’s left trigger is simply not recognized by the game at all.
Well, as the name suggests, for whatever reason V Rising just doesn’t recognize the Steam Deck’s left trigger. Something like this could be due to faulty hardware or because of controllers not being reordered correctly. So, is there a fix for this issue? Well, let’s go ahead and find out.
V Rising Steam Deck left trigger not recognizing issue: How to fix it?
Here are some workarounds which will be of help in dealing with this issue. Try these and see which ones are of help.
Reorder the controllers –
A player was helpful enough to share this workaround. Essentially, what you need to do is to reorder the controllers on your Steam Deck and that should be enough to fix this issue. In order to do this, you need to first launch the game. Once you are in, press the Quick Access Menu button (…) and select the Rearrange controller order option. Next, make sure to move the Steam Deck controller to the top and then order your other controllers below it. Now, select Stop Reorder and the issue should be there no more. In case, this doesn’t help, you can try other workarounds too.
Recalibrate the controllers –
This issue could also be simply the result of controllers not being calibrated properly. Recalibrating should fix that. To do that, first, you will need to switch to Desktop Mode on your Steam Deck. Once you are in Desktop Mode, launch Konsole and type in trigger_cal. Now, follow the instructions mentioned there, and see if that helps. Additionally, you can also make use of the Deck’s button remapping feature to circumvent this issue.
Check for physical damage –
Do make sure to check for any physical damage on your Steam Deck. While it is a pretty sturdy device, it’s not immune to damage. So, take a good and thorough look at the device and find out if it’s suffered any physical damage. Additionally, if you are comfortable with opening up your Steam Deck then we suggest you do that and see if anything’s been damaged there.
Update –
Don’t forget to update both the Steam Deck and the game to the latest version available. Updating can tremendously help you in dealing with a ton of issues, so try this. In case, updating isn’t of much help then switch to other workarounds.
Reinstall –
If you are still experiencing this issue then we suggest reinstalling V Rising. Simply uninstall it from your Deck and start a new download. After the installation is complete, launch the game and see if the issue persists. If even this doesn’t help, then doing a re-image of the Steam Deck might.
