Tower of God is a very well-known webtoon manhwa, meaning it finds its roots in the Southern end of the Korean Peninsula. It is written and illustrated by the author that goes by the name S.I.U (Slave in Utero), and has been running since June 26, 2010, to the present day, making it an extremely long original run for a webtoon. Its popularity naturally led to the creation of an anime series based on the webtoon and licensed by Telecom Animation Film. CrunchyRoll and Netflix also picked up this anime series, thus making it available to viewers across the world. As of February 2020 Tower of God had accumulated 4.5 billion views worldwide. In this article, we will be talking about the possibility of this large-scale success leading to the creation of a PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC video game. Right, let’s get straight into it.
There has already been a role-playing video game based on the characters from Tower of God, it was released in 2013 for mobile devices, sharing its title with the webtoon. It drew 120 million users shortly after the initial release, and after two years of development, it witnessed a full commercial release in 2016. It quickly became a staple in the top 5 most popular games on South Korea’s version of the app store. There is no doubt that the widespread success of this game will greatly encourage both investors as well as a prospective developer and publisher that a new gaming product in the Tower of God universe will do well for them commercially.
Seeing as there is yet to be any official announcement from the author, S.I.U on his blog, we may have to wait a while before we receive a Tower of God game on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Considering the amount of work that goes into developing a quality high budget webtoon-based video game for major platforms, we could be looking at a 2023 release for the Tower of God game.
