Serving as the third installment in the Outlast series and prequel to the first two games, The Outlast Trials entered early access on May 18, 2023. Developed and published by Montreal-based developer Red Barrels, the game has been receiving great praise from both the community and critics alike. Available only on the Windows platform at the moment, the game is constantly updated and receives content drops. And because of that, it has led to many in the community asking for a 2023 roadmap for the game, and this is something that lots of fans are very keen to know. Red Barrels have said that they plan to release the full version of the game before the end of the year if possible, so it’s understandable that fans would want to know what new things are coming and what more are planned.
Roadmaps are indeed a double-edged sword, to be honest. While they are excellent tools for generating hype and attention around a game, they can also hinder development, as things don’t always go smoothly when it comes to video game development. Furthermore, if the devs miss their timeline, then the community gets angry and disappointed, which then creates negative attention around the game. Suffice it to say, putting out a roadmap is a risky move for the developers. So, what’s up with Outlast Trials roadmap for 2023? Let’s find out!
Outlast Trials Roadmap for 2023: Here’s everything you need to know
At the time of writing this article, developer Red Barrels hasn’t officially published any roadmap for The Outlast Trials for 2023. But are they planning to release one in the near future? Well, we can’t say anything for sure. The studio hasn’t indicated any willingness, but it’s possible they could release a future roadmap sometime later this year. For now, it’s a good 50/50 chance. While we don’t have any information regarding a roadmap, we do know some details on upcoming content thanks to the game’s Steam early access FAQ. Red Barrel has specifically stated:
“Players will be pushed to their limits in new environments, new trials, several challenges and variators, a seasonal program, character and cell customization, full character progression with a narrative introduction and a surprising conclusion for each Reagent released, and more, gradually throughout the Early Access.”
This goes to show that the developers have planned various content for the game. Furthermore, the game already received Update #2 on June 13th. This update brings with it a special event called Program Omega, a New Variator, and much more. You can read the full patch notes here.
Players also need to remember that the game was recently launched in early access, and putting out a roadmap so early can be detrimental to the development of the game. Developers first need to collect feedback from the community and then carry on with the development, keeping that feedback in mind. So, if things stay right on track, we might eventually get a roadmap for the game; however, due to the absence of official information on the same, take it with a pinch of salt. We will make sure to update this article with relevant information once it is released. Until then, keep following DigiStatement for more on gaming.
