J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings is a juggernaut in entertainment media. A successful trilogy of books and movies is something that can’t be pulled off easily if the creators are not skilled in their craft. Although the franchise may have established itself successfully in the books and movie media, it still hasn’t succeeded in the video games world. Daedalic Entertainment intends to change that with their next release – The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. The Hamburg-based video game developer and publisher is all set and ready to make the Lord of the Rings reach new heights with their new game. But so much is unknown about this title. Well, we are here to shed some light on some key details related to its launch and other stuff.
Known for creating the Deponia series and publishing Barotrauma, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be Daedalic Entertainment’s first AAA title. The LotR franchise did dip its toes in the video game industry before with titles like The Hobbit: Battle of The Five Armies, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Lego The Hobbit, and more. However, these have ranged from mediocre to marginally successful. So far, only the Middle-Earth series of games were able to gain some good traction. The Lord of The Rings: Gollum is an ambitious project, one that if successful can pave the way for more grand titles. And fans deserve to know everything they can about this upcoming release.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Release Date, Platforms, Editions, Pre-order Details & More
Daedalic Entertainment announced the game back in March 2019 during that year’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Born from a partnership deal with Middle-earth Enterprises [a sub-division of Embracer Group], it was originally slated to be released in 2021. Later on Nacon, a French video game company inked a deal with Daedalic to be a co-publisher for the game, pushing the release date further into 2022. And then the game got delayed again. This time from 2022 to 2023. Right now, The Lords of the Rings Gollum is scheduled to get released on 25th May 2023.
Platforms
Fans will be able to play LotR: Gollum on Windows, PlayStation 4/ 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on the launch date itself. Nintendo Switch users will get their switch port sometime later in the year. A concrete release window for the port is yet to be announced.
Editions
Gollum will arrive on game platforms in two separate editions – Standard and Precious/Deluxe. The Precious Edition will offer players an “even more immersive experience.” According to the Steam page, it will include the base game, the Sindarin VO(voice-over) DLC. Along with that, there will be the Lore Compendium DLC, emotes pack, original soundtrack application, and Art Exhibition application. The standard edition will only have the base game included.
Pre-order Details
Fans can pre-order the game right now on all the major platforms except for the Switch. The Precious Edition is available to pre-order for $69.99 on all the storefronts. Standard edition, on the other hand, costs only $50 on PC storefronts, and $60 on console stores.
