The Lord of the Rings: Gollum: Best Settings for High FPS & Low Input Lag

Who would’ve guessed that Redfall and Forspoken weren’t at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to poorly optimized games? The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is the latest game by German game development and publishing studio – Daedalic Entertainment and the game is bombing hard at the moment. Gollum is filled with bugs and technical issues, the likes of which we have only seen with the launch of Fallout 76 and No Man’s Sky. Players can’t even run the game at a stable FPS, forcing them to try out different settings. Well, if you are looking for the best settings to play the game on, look no further.

Most players were cautious when the recommended specs for the game were revealed. However, there was still some optimism that Daedalic would try to release the game in a stable state. But as we have already seen since its launch on May 25th, 2023, the game is a mess. Now, this guide will not magically fix the game, but it should allow you to run it at high FPS with low input lag.

We would like to preface this guide by saying that, depending on your PC’s capabilities, the following settings may or may not work for you. Still, we recommend you try the given settings to see if The Lord of the Rings: Gollum runs at a stable frame rate.

  • Display Mode – Fullscreen
  • Resolution – 1920×1080
  • Vertical Sync – Off
  • Anti-Aliasing – Low
  • Shadow Quality – Low
  • Texture Quality – Medium
  • Texture Streaming – On
  • View Distance – Low
  • Visual Effects Quality – Low
  • Gollum Hair Simulation – Off (Keep this turned off unless you want to see Gollum’s few remaining hairs on his little bald head)
  • Ray Tracing Mode – Off
  • Upsacler Type – AMD FSR 2 (For AMD GPUs) / Nvidia DLSS (For NVIDIA GPUs, especially RTX 4000 series. And you must enable Frame Generation.)
  • AMDFidelityFX – Balanced/Performance
  • Dynamic Resolution – Off
  • Motion Blur in this game is absolutely atrocious. Sadly, there’s no option to toggle it off in the game.

You can also lower the resolution if you want more FPS. Along with that, if the game isn’t even running with the current settings, then you might need to change the Display Mode to Windowed.

Bonus tip: If you are comfortable sacrificing quality for better FPS, we recommend that you set AMDFidelityFX to Ultra Performance. Nvidia GPU users can also do this since AMDFidelityFX supports Nvidia GPUs from the 1000 Series onward.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a badly optimized game, and there’s no denying that fact. Redfall and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (PC Version) are “top-tier” games compared to this sad example of a game. Daedalic Entertainment did publish an apology regarding the poor state of the game and stated the following –

“Our development team has been working diligently to address the bugs and technical issues many of you experienced. We are committed to providing you with patches that will allow you to enjoy the game to its fullest potential.”

These apology letters are like DLCs at this point, ones that come with poorly optimized games. Still, let’s see how much Daedalic can improve Gollum in the near future. Anyway, with that said, make sure to bookmark us for more guides and information on the latest gaming trends.
