Run using the msi file of the game –

A fix that players can follow to resolve the issue is to launch the game using the msi file. Likewise, players can do this by following the steps below –

  1. First and foremost, you have to go to the Terraria system folder.
  2. Next up, you have to look for the “_redist” folder. Inside this folder, you have to find another folder with the name “XNA_40” and open it.
  3. Then, you have to look for the msi file inside the folder.
  4. Finally, you have to double-click on the msi file and follow the steps in the instruction.

Re-download the game’s files –

Players can also resolve the launch issue of the game when using the tModLoader mod tool. The game may not be opening due to the game files not being compatible with the version of the tModLoader. Likewise, players can re-download the game’s files to fix the issue.

  1. First and foremost, you have to open Steam and go to Terraria in the Library.
  2. You have to right-click on Terraria to bring up options.
  3. Next up, you have to go to Manage and go to the “Browse Files” option.
  4. Then, you have to select everything in the folder of the game’s files and delete them all.
  5. Now, you have to launch the game on Steam and wait for the error message to show up.
  6. Finally, you have to confirm the prompt to re-download Terraria.

Rename the game –

The game may also face launch issues on Steam. Likewise, renaming the game can resolve such issues. In order to do this, players can follow the steps below –

  1. First and foremost, you have to go to Terraria in the Steam Library.
  2. Next up, you have to right-click on Terraria and click on the “Properties” option.
  3. Then, you have to go to the Local Files option and click on “Browse Local Files…”.
  4. In the game’s local files folder, you have to click on the common folder and copy the Terraria folder to your desktop.
  5. On your desktop, you have to open the Terraria folder and find the game’s executable file. Then, you have to rename the file to another name.
  6. Now, you have to go back to your Steam Library.
  7. Then, you have to click on the “ADD GAME…” option and click on the “Add a Non-Steam Game” option.
  8. You have to then browse and select the executable file with the new name.
  9. Finally, you have to click on the “ADD SELECTED PROGRAMS” option and launch the game.

Add missing DLL files –

The game may also face launch issues due to missing DLL files. Likewise, players can go to this link to download the game’s DLL package. After downloading the package, you have to extract the .zip file and paste the 64-bit DLL files into C:\Windows\System32. Additionally, you have to place the 32-bit DLL files into C:\Windows\SysWow64.
