Tekken 8 is rumoured to be currently under development at Bandai Namco, so we could probably hazard a guess at its release date from what we know. Let’s take a look at all of the rumours, leaks, speculation, and information regarding Tekken 8.
As we all know, Tekken 7 brought an end to the 20-year long Mishima feud, as well as the coveted King of the Iron Fist tournament. This led many fans and players to think that this could be the last entry to the Tekken franchise, but this seems highly unlikely. Considering the fact that Bandai Namco still makes a considerable amount of money from Tekken 7 six years after it was launched, it is hard to imagine they would let go of this franchise so soon when Mortal Kombat seems to be faltering with some of the lowest ratings ever for the franchise coming in the past five years. One of the developers of the game, Katsuhiro Harada tweeted out “Since I can no longer fly around the world, I have time to write a new title planning sheet & design document. Of course, I’m also thinking about what to do with the new plan of “TEKKEN World Tour” and TEKKEN Series with many staff.” Since it is very much possible that the work that Harada was talking about is the remake of Tekken 3 for current-gen and next-gen consoles, it is quite possible that we may have to wait for late 2022 or an early 2023 release of Tekken 8. The usual gap between Tekken games coming out is historically 1.5 to 2 years, and that would have to be after an assumed late 2021 or early 2022 release of the Tekken 3 remake. There are already rumours about a shock return for Heihachi to the franchise, and this would undoubtedly take a big plotline in the game to happen. All we can do for now is wait for more news to break. Till then, cheers!
