Mouse not working in System Shock

Developed by Nightdive Studios, System Shock, a remake of the 1994 video game, was released on May 30, 2023. This new game is available on PC only. For players who enjoy playing sci-fi action/adventure games, it is a must-try. Filled with scintillating visuals of a space station compromised by a rogue AI, System Shock takes the players on a nerve-wracking adventure. However, as engaging as the game is, it does have a few bugs and errors that need fixing. One such error faced by System Shock players is the one where their mouse stops responding. If you have faced this mouse not working error in System Shock, we are here to help you!

Whenever a new game releases, the developers try their best to make the gaming experience perfect for the fans. However, even with the best efforts, most games still feature one or two bugs that ruin the experience. System Shock is no exception. While the game is already a fan favorite with highly positive ratings, the mouse not working error can be a huge setback for the players. Are you facing the same issue? Wondering how to fix it?

Mouse Not Working Error in System Shock: How to Fix?

Mouse not working error in System Shock

While most of the fans have showered the game with compliments, some reported facing a mouse error. From what we can see in the game’s Steam Community discussions, players are facing this issue where their mouse simply isn’t responding when they’re in the game. As reported by user TTV/OnlyTees, when they were in the “Options” menu, the mouse pointer kept blinking on and off as the game failed to read the mouse input correctly. They also reported that they could not use the mouse to hover over anything in the game at all. Even when they’re in the inventory, they’re unable to hover over the items or click on them. Meanwhile, user silentstorm reported that they cannot interact with anything in-game at all, including the inventory and the puzzles. Well, the developers haven’t responded to this error, so there isn’t any official fix yet. However, we have compiled a list of potential workarounds that you can try if you’re facing this error.

Verify the game files

Although this isn’t a surefire way to fix the error, you can still try it. In order to do this, go to your Steam library and locate the game. Now, right-click on it, and from the drop-down list, select “Properties”. Here, select the “Local Files” options. You can see the “Verify integrity of game files” option here. If you click on this option, Steam will run a check on your game and replace the missing or corrupted game files. Once completed, reboot your PC, launch the game, and see if the issue is fixed.

Check the connection

Check if your mouse is connected properly to your PC. You should also check if the USB port on your PC is not faulty. If not, try reconnecting your mouse and then restarting your game. You can also try using a Bluetooth mouse instead of a wired one.

Reboot your PC

Sometimes, something as simple as rebooting your PC can fix the most disturbing bugs in a game. Try this and see if your mouse starts working properly when you play System Shock.

Disconnect your controller

Sometimes, having too many peripherals connected to your PC can tamper with the device inputs. If you’re connecting your controller and mouse to your PC at the same time, this might be the reason for the mouse not working error. Try disconnecting your controller, and then check if the mouse works in the game.

These are some of the generic fixes that you can try to solve the mouse not working error in System Shock. For more such fixes and updates, keep reading DigiStatement!
