If you have encountered the infamous, dreadful “Out of Video Memory” error in Stellar Blade’s PC release—a problem PC players find harder to deal with than even a game’s final boss—don’t worry. This error isn’t unique to Stellar Blade; it’s a common challenge faced by PC gamers across many graphically demanding modern titles, which push hardware to its limits. That said, in this guide, we will dive into this issue and share tested workarounds and fixes.

The “Out of Video Memory” error occurs when a game attempts to use more of your graphics card’s memory (VRAM) than is available. While Stellar Blade is generally praised for its PC optimization, this error can still occur, especially on systems with lower VRAM or when settings are pushed too high. Surprisingly, even players with high-end rigs are reporting this issue, indicating it’s not solely a problem for lower-end systems. If you are also facing this issue, you do not need to worry, as we have shared tested workarounds and fixes that might work for you.

Lower In-Game Graphics Settings

This is often the most direct and effective solution. Reduce in-game settings that heavily consume VRAM to allow your PC to run the game without hitting its limit. If playing at 1440p or 4K with limited VRAM, like 8GB, consider lowering your display resolution or using a lower rendering scale.

Increase Shader Cache

Since Stellar Blade is built on Unreal Engine 4 and heavily utilizes shaders, increasing your GPU’s shader cache size can be beneficial. To do this: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to “Manage 3D Settings” > “Global settings,” find “Shader Cache Size,” and set it to “Unlimited” or “Driver Default,” then apply the changes.

Modify GameUserSettings.ini

Upon facing a similar issue, a Steam user shared a workaround that worked for them. Here’s how to do this:

  • Navigate to: %userappdata%\local\SB\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
  • Open the GameUserSettings.ini file using Notepad.
  • Find and change the following lines:
    • FullscreenMode=2 to FullscreenMode=1 (Mode 1 typically corresponds to true fullscreen or borderless fullscreen).
    • PreferredFullscreenMode=1 (Ensure this is also set to 1).
  • Save the file and try launching the game.

Update BIOS

Outdated BIOS versions may misconfigure CPU power delivery, leading to errors in Unreal Engine games. Most motherboard manufacturers have released BIOS updates that incorporate Intel’s fixes for these CPU stability issues. Updating your BIOS to the latest version is highly recommended as a permanent solution.

Underclock CPU

If a BIOS update isn’t immediately feasible or you’re uncomfortable with BIOS changes, you can install Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) and underclock the Performance Core Ratio of your CPU to fix the “out of video memory” error. To do this, simply download and install Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. Open the application and set the Performance Core ratio to 52x or lower. Now, launch the game, and the issue will most likely be fixed.

And that’s all about the tested fixes for the out of video memory error in Stellar Blade. If you found this guide informative, make sure to visit DigiStatement for more guides and fixes for your favorite games.
