When it comes to PC handhelds, Valve’s Steam Deck happens to be quite a popular choice among many. And while Valve has a pretty good track record of resolving many of the Steam Deck’s issues, some have become a pretty frequent occurrence lately. One of these just so seems to be the gamescope stuck issue.
For the uninitiated, Gamescope is a microcompositor developed by Valve for the Steam Deck. From providing framerate limit features to resolution spoofing, it’s used extensively by many Deck users. As for this issue, something like this could be due to a one-off glitch or the FPS monitor. So, can this issue be fixed? Well, continue reading to learn more.
Steam Deck gamescope stuck on issue: How to fix it
Players can try the following workarounds to deal with this issue:
Set the Performance slider to 0 –
For players unable to do away with Gamescope’s statistic overlay, just press the menu or options button on the Deck while you are in-game and then open the Performance menu. You will find a Performance Overlay Level slider in there. Bring down the slider to 0 and you will be able to do away with the statistic overlay.
Restart –
Restarting the Deck is also a common way to deal with issues like this one. So, we suggest you try restarting the Deck and see if that helps. If the issue persists, try the next workaround. Players can also try restarting the device and then using the previous method.
Turn off the FPS Monitor –
This one might or might not work. Nevertheless, give it a try. Basically, what you need to do is set the Performance Overlay level from 0 to 4. Then disable Show Perf Overlay in Steam. If the issue continues, restart the Deck.
Use Terminal –
For this one, what you need to do is open the SteamOS settings and then select Developer. Next, enable Developer Mode in order to access Terminal. After that’s done, press the Steam button + A, and this will open the Steam Overlay. Switch to the Web tab and type in the following: “steam://open/console”. Once the console opens, type in the following and hit enter: “gamescope –disable”.
Hard reboot the Deck –
In case none of the aforementioned workarounds are of help, maybe try hard rebooting the Deck. In this case, all you need to do is hold down the power button for about ten/twelve seconds and the Deck will power off. Now just wait for a while for the Deck to power back on. After it turns on, find out if gamescope is still stuck. Additionally, we also suggest updating the Deck if there’s an update available.
Well, that’s all the workarounds you can try to fix the issue. Additionally, if you want to know how to install CryoUtilities on your Deck, check out this guide. And for more such content, keep following DigiStatement. Also read: Fallout New Vegas Steam Deck controller not working: How to fix it?
