Players will have to make do with the following workarounds to deal with this issue:
Use touch controls –
This happens to be quite a common issue and as such, the community generally recommends using touch controls for completing set-up. Once the setup is done, restart your Steam Deck and the controls should work just fine.
Force Reboot the Deck –
Force rebooting the Steam Deck is also another common fix for issues like this one. For this workaround, all you need to do is hold down the Steam Deck’s power button for ten seconds and the device will automatically turn off. Now just wait for the Deck to power itself back on and then you can see if the issue persists.
Update the Deck –
Updating the Deck after reimaging might help you fix this. That’s what some players did, so we recommend giving it a try. However, if this doesn’t help, switch to another workaround.
Use a USB to recover image from –
Players can also try using a USB to recover image from. Once you boot into it, the trackpads and buttons should work. If that works, select restore image and wait for the Deck to restart. Essentially, you should try to reimage and see if that works.
Switch to Beta branch –
For some other players, switching to the beta branch is what helped them resolve this issue, so try it. For this, all you need to do is press the Steam button on your Deck and select System. Now, navigate to Beta Participation and expand the System Update Channel. From there, select Beta and restart the device.
