Keen Software House’s Space Engineers just recently received some new major content in the form of the Signal update. This update introduced new blocks, added content to existing DLCs, and brought a bunch of much-needed features into the game. All in all, a pretty good update for Space Engineers. While the game is certainly fun, there are some issues with it that many would love to get rid of. A common source of frustration for many players has been an issue with mods, where they simply don’t work as intended at all.
One of the unique things about Space Engineers is that it even allows console users to use mods. Something that not a lot of games do. Mods add a ton of replayability to the game, so it’s only evident that players would want to fix this issue ASAP. For some, mods simply don’t show up in the mod list, while for others, the issue is that mods aren’t usable. So, is there a fix for this? Well, let’s go ahead and find out.
Space Engineers mods not working: How to fix it
The following workarounds will help you in resolving this issue. There are some common workarounds, which can be used by both console and PC users. Aside from that, there are also platform-specific workarounds. Use these and see which ones are of help to you.
Restart –
The very first thing that we recommend players do is restart their PC or console. At times, a simple restart might be all you need to fix this issue. So, just do a quick restart of whatever system you are on and then launch the game. If the mods are still not working, then you can try other workarounds.
Check what type of mod you have installed –
This is only for console users. Unlike PCs, consoles have certain limitations on what kind of mods can be used. Both Xbox and PS players can’t use client-side scripts. Furthermore, all script-mods and programmable block scripts will only run on dedicated servers and not locally on your system. So, make sure that you aren’t using scripts of any kind. Simply checkmark the Mod option in mod.io and use whatever ones are available in there.
Update –
Check if there’s an update available for Space Engineers. If there’s one, download and install that update. While you are at it, do the same with your PC or console, too. This issue can also be caused by mod version error, so don’t forget to update your mods too.
Redownload mods –
This is another common workaround that both PC and console players can make use of. Just uninstall the mod that’s not working and install it again. Be sure to delete a mod first and then re-download it. If this method isn’t of help, you can switch to another one.
Switch to the Creative Mode –
A simple enough reason why you are experiencing this issue could be that you simply haven’t unlocked the tech tree enough to make use of your mods. So, what we recommend you do here is to switch to Creative Mode and then check if all of your problematic mods appear in there. If they do, then all you have to do is advance your tech tree in Survival Mode.
Reaccept the mod.io agreement –
Console players try going into Options and finding the Mod.io agreement in there. Once found, uncheck the agreement and then promptly checkmark it. Now, see if the issue persists. If it does, try other fixes.
For PC
Check where Steam and Workshop are installed –
As stated here, the issue can also occur if Steam and Workshop are installed on a different drive. Make sure that both are installed on the same drive and that should help you with this issue.
Verify files –
PC players can try this method, as sometimes a missing or corrupted game file can also lead to issues like this one. To do this, launch Steam and navigate to your Steam Library. From there, find Space Engineers and right-click on it. Now, select Properties > Installed Files > Verify Integrity of game files.
