In 2018, Endnight Games published their debut title, – The Forest. Upon its release, it was an instant hit and made Endnight Games one of the most popular indie studios out there. Sons of the Forest is the sequel to that amazing game. Released under Steam’s Early Access program on February 23, 2023, the game quickly went on to become one of Steam’s best-selling titles. Two million copies were sold in a matter of 24 hours. That’s a statistic that even some AAA games fail to achieve. Suffice it to say, fans love this series. And rightfully so too. Endnight Games keeps on introducing amazing updates to the game, with no end in sight. In fact, on June 23, 2023, Sons of the Forest received yet another one. Patch 07 has lots of new things for players to experience and get used to. A major one is the clean/dirty water system.
Survival sims always try to be as realistic as possible, and Sons of the Forest here is no exception. The Forest itself has some of the best survival mechanics out there, and its sequel is trying to do the same by introducing things like these. Clean water doesn’t sound very important or interesting at first, but once you get engrossed in the game, you will quickly learn its importance. So, how do you boil/clean water in Sons of the Forest? Let’s find out!
Sons of the Forest (SotF): How to boil/clean water
Patch 07 of Sons of the Forest introduced lots of new improvements and content to the game, and the “Dirty/Clean water system” happens to be one of them. In case you weren’t aware, before the release of Patch 07, players were able to drink water from any source to prevent their thirst meter from going down. And since Sons of the Forest is going for that realistic survival simulation vibe, the developers decided to change this mechanic. Now, you can’t just drink water from any kind of source because drinking dirty water will make you lose a tiny amount of health, although it will keep dehydration and thirst down. Still, if you don’t want to lose your health, it’s highly recommended that you drink clean water. How can you do that? Simple. You just need to clean or boil that dirty water.
To boil the dirty water in order to turn it clean, you will need to obtain a cooking pot first. Players can find one on the west side of the island, in a small abandoned camp. The cooking pot is right in the middle of the abandoned camp, so you wouldn’t miss it. Once you have your cooking pot, start a fire, access the recipe list, and then cook the dirty water by accessing the cog wheel. The process is now the same as for any other recipe. Simply pouring dirty water into the cooking pot and placing it on top of the fire won’t boil/clean it.
