Solo Leveling, also known as Only I Level Up, is a popular South Korean web novel that was first released on July 25, 2016, and continues its original run to the present day. The web novel follows the life of Sung Jin-Woo, one of the weakest hunters that came to Earth through portals to their world. Without revealing too much, let’s just say that his weakness both kills him and makes him the strongest and most unique hunter on the Korean Peninsula. In this article, we will be exploring the prospect of a new video game for major consoles like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and the PC being developed based on the characters and plot of Solo Leveling. Right, let’s get straight into it then.
The popularity of the original web novel has led to the creation of a webtoon that started in 2018. What’s more, both a drama adapted for western viewership and a video game in the Solo Leveling universe have been confirmed. Maeil Bussiness News Korea reported in April 2021 that the mobile game giant Netmarble Corp (who are well known in the United States and across the world for their work on Marvel: Future Fight, as well as The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross) was developing it.
While there has not been any confirmation of the platforms that the Solo Leveling game will be releasing on, it will almost certainly be for mobile devices, since that is what Netmarble is best known for. We can hope that the success of the upcoming game leads to the owners of the Intellectual property of Solo leveling wanting to expand into the mainstream gaming platforms.
Let’s hope for a 2024 or early 2025 release for the potential Solo Leveling game on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
