Six Days in Fallujah Voice Chat Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet

Highwire Games’ controversial game, Six Days in Fallujah, finally saw its release as an early access title on June 22, 2023. The studio has already announced that a console port will be released sometime later in 2024. So far, the game seems to be a success, thanks to its combat and depiction of real-life events with immersive realism. As fun as the game seems, some players have been reporting that the in-game voice chat is not working for them.

Voice chat, particularly in games like this, is crucial. Team play is necessary for the online co-op setting that Six Days in Fallujah offers, and for that, communication is a must. So, you can see why this issue is not sitting well with the players. However, we do have some workarounds you can try.

Well, the developers are already aware of this issue and are actively working on it. AmperCamper, a developer on the Six Days team, responded to a Steam discussion post stating, “We’re currently working on adding a visual indicator into the audio settings to let players know if their mic is receiving input. This isn’t exactly a fix, but this will help us troubleshoot further.” So, until a fix is deployed, you can try the mentioned workarounds to get the voice chat working again.

Restart game –

Some players found that a quick restart of the game made the issue disappear. You can try this too. However, remember that what worked for others might not work for you. And in case it doesn’t, follow the next method.

Choose the correct Input/Output device –

For this method, you need to access the game’s Audio settings and choose the correct device for both input and output. If both are set to default, change them as per the device you are using.

Turn Off Spatial Sound –

If you have Spatial Sound enabled, this can also cause the voice chat not working issue in Six Days in Fallujah. So, to disable it, open the Windows Settings menu. Select System, then Sound, and go to Related Settings. Now, click on the Sound Control Panel and choose your primary playback device. After this, click on Properties, and select the Spatial Sound option. In the Spatial Sound Format section, make sure you select Off. Save the changes and restart your PC.

Check your hardware –

It’s always better to check your hardware for damage. A faulty wire or any kind of physical damage can be the cause of sound-related issues. If your headset is perfectly fine, then try the next workaround.

Allow microphone access –

If you haven’t enabled microphone access in the game, then we suggest you do so immediately. The issue might arise just because you haven’t enabled this option. To do so, open Settings > Privacy > Microphone. There you will see the “Allow apps to access your microphone” option. Enable it and see if the issue still persists.

Verify and repair game files –

You can also use Steam’s Integrity check feature to check if the game has any missing files or not. If it does, such issues can occur. To do so, open Steam and head straight for the Library. Next, right-click on Six Days in Fallujah and select Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files. After the scan is completed, launch the game and check whether the voice chat is working now.

Update audio drivers –

Players should also update their audio drivers if they haven’t done so in a long time. Just type in Device Manager in the search box and open it. Next, select the Sound, video, and game controllers options. Select the primary sound device and right-click on it to choose Update Drivers. In the next window, select “Search automatically for updated driver software”. After the audio drivers are updated, launch the game, and check if the issue persists.
