Whenever players encounter such problems, they try to find official fixes that can surely help them out. Unfortunately, for SMT V Vengeance players, there isn’t any official fix yet. You can, however, try these workarounds to see if they work for you.

Change the Graphics Settings

For some players, this issue is being triggered as Steam Deck is struggling to support the higher graphics settings. Try the advised settings given below and see if it work for you-

  • Change the resolution to 1152×720.
  • Change the frame rate limit to 50 FPS or limit the Refresh Date to 50 Hz.
  • Set the TDP limit to 9.
  • If you want to enjoy the game in full resolution, then change the frame rate limit to 30 FPS and set the TDP limit to 8.
  • You can leave the rest of the settings unchanged.

Restart Steam Deck

  • Press and hold the Power button for around 10 seconds. This should force-restart your device.
  • Your Steam Deck should power itself back on automatically after a forced restart. However, if that doesn’t happen, then simply press and hold the Power button once again to turn the device back on.
  • Run the game and see if the issue persists.

Verify Game Files

  • Go to your Steam library on your Deck.
  • Highlight Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance and press the three-dot button.
  • Scroll down and go to Properties.
  • Open the Installed Files tab and here you can click on the “Verify integrity of game files” option.
  • Once done, run the game and see if it’s still crashing.

Use Proton GE or Proton Experimental

  • Open the game’s Properties menu as shared in the previous workaround.
  • Go to the Compatibility tab.
  • Tap on “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool“.
  • Now select Proton GE from the list.
  • Run the game and see if it has worked. If not, then use Proton Experimental as the compatibility layer and see if that works for you.

Use Steam Linux Runtime

For this, you need to follow the exact steps shown in the previous workaround. Now, instead of choosing Proton GE or Proton Experimental, simply select Steam Linux Runtime as the compatibility tool. Then, run the game and see if it has worked.

Update SteamOS

  • Press the Steam button on your Steam Deck and open Settings.
  • Go to the System tab.
  • Tap on “Check for Updates” and see if there are any pending updates available.
  • Select Apply to download and install the SteamOS update.
  • Then run the game and see if it has worked.

Well, that’s all from us. If you’re still facing the problem with Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance crashing on Steam Deck, you’ll need to wait for an official fix.
