Coffee Stain just released Update 8 for Satisfactory on June 13th, 2023. Available only on the Experimental branch for now, this update brought tons of changes. Most of it is upgrading the game engine to Unreal Engine 5, along with some technical and blueprint changes and QoL improvements. Now, one of the things that updates like this bring with them is interest among players. And if you are reading this article, then you must have already downloaded and installed the game on your PC. But now you are stuck with planning your factory! Isn’t it?
Rimworld, Factorio, Satisfactory, and such games have one thing in common. They are very plan-heavy. Players need to ensure proper layout and such before even starting with the serious parts of the game. And for many, that can be a daunting task. But fret not. We are here to help you with that. Follow this guide, and you will be ready to build your next factory.
Satisfactory: How to plan factory?
Make a proper supply line first –
Just like in factories, it’s highly recommended that you set up a proper supply line. Without one, we guarantee that you will be running hither and thither and ultimately wasting the potential of your factory. Drones and trains are better suited for long-distance transport, while conveyor belts are for shorter ones. Plus, using drones and trains means you won’t need to travel further from the main hub more frequently.
Set up Storage and Power Specific Areas –
One of the major mistakes new players make is that they build storage and power facilities willy-nilly without giving much thought to efficiency. As such, try to set up these two in a specific area. Have the Storage Containers near the Sky Elevator and your home base. And when it comes to power, try going with power plants if possible.
Go with spread-out mini-factories, instead of one giant mega-factory –
This is more on the side of preventing your game from crashing. While Coffee Stain has done a good job optimizing the game, it can still chug your GPU simply due to the sheer size of the in-game functions. Well, if you don’t want to experience massive FPS drops, build small mini-factories that are spread out over the planet. And connect all of them using proper supply lines, as suggested earlier.
Build modular factories –
Instead of mixing everything, make your factories modular in design. Build a specific factory for one particular thing and nothing else. This way, you don’t have to scratch your head every time you try to remember which factory makes what.
No room?? Go up –
Let’s be honest here! We aren’t playing Stardew Valley here, trying to make everything pretty and aesthetic. One thing you will always find lacking in Satisfactory is enough room for your ever-expanding factories. This is where the sage advice of “No room? Go up” comes into play. It’s evident that at some point there will not be enough space for you to build factories. That’s when you start building factories vertically, i.e., tower factories.
Use Satisfactory Calculator –
We can’t recommend the Satisfactory Calculator enough. Almost every game has that one fan-made app or website that eventually becomes crucial to the overall experience. Well, without using them, playing the game can be a challenge. Satisfactory Calculator is the same. Unless you are some galaxy-brain savant, doing all the calculations and planning can become incredibly hectic. Because of that, we suggest you use it.
