Roblox Failed to download or apply critical settings error: How to fix it?
The following workarounds will be of help in dealing with this issue. Try these and find out which ones are of help to you.
Add the game as an exclusion –
A common cause of this issue seems to be anti-virus flagging or blocking Roblox. And as such, we suggest that you add the game as an exclusion on your anti-virus. For those using Windows Defender, just follow the instructions below:
- Open Windows Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security.
- Now, click on Virus & Threat Protection, and under Virus & Threat Protection settings select Manage settings.
- In the next window, scroll down and click on Add or Remove Exclusions.
- Next, click on the Add an Exclusion button, then browse and add Roblox.
Delete Roblox folder –
Another fix for this issue is simply deleting the Roblox folder and then reinstalling it. To do that, you can just follow the instructions below:
- Press Windows + R and then type in %localappdata%. Then press Enter.
- Now, find the Roblox folder and delete it.
- Next, uninstall Roblox and install it again to see if the issue persists.
Additionally, you can also try opening the versions folder inside Roblox and then deleting the folder inside it.
Run the game as an administrator –
You can also try running the game as an administrator and see if that helps. For this, all you need to do is right-click on the .exe of Roblox and select Properties. Next, switch to the Compatibility tab and there you will find the Run this program as an administrator option. Tick or checkmark the option, and then click on Apply and OK.
Check your system’s date and time –
Another common cause of this issue seems to be an incorrect date and time. So, what we recommend you do is first check whether your device has the correct date and time set. If it’s incorrect, make sure that the Set Time Automatically option is checkmarked.
Use Command Prompt –
You should also try using the command prompt to deal with this issue. Just open the Command Prompt as an administrator and then type in “netsh winsock reset” and press Enter. After that, type “ipconfig/release”, then “ipconfig/renew”, and “ipconfig/flushdns” one by one followed by pressing Enter. Once done, launch the game, and check if the issue persists.
Check the game’s server status –
Sometimes errors like this can also be due to the Roblox server not being operational. That’s why we suggest you head to the official Roblox Server Status webpage and then see if the servers are marked as Operational. If not, just wait until the servers are back to normal and then launch Roblox.
