One of the most popular Pokemon battle simulators, Pokemon Showdown, is currently in a pinch. If you load up the official Pokemon Showdown website to participate in some high-intensity battles, you will quickly notice that everything remains at a standstill with only one message: “Loading”, followed by the “couldn’t connect to servers” popup. Well, you are not the only one encountering this issue. Reports from countless players and a Reddit post from one of the game’s Reddit page moderators have shed some light on the same. Here’s everything you need to know about why Pokemon Showdown is not working right now.

Pokemon Showdown is a battle simulator that is mostly multiplayer. It allows you to battle other players with randomly generated teams or a custom-made one. The gameplay is quite fun, which is why its player base is huge. Now, since May 14, 2024, the Pokemon Showdown website hasn’t been functional as players couldn’t get past the landing page due to the “Couldn’t connect to server error” pop-up. No matter which option you select, including Retry, Retry with Http, or Go Offline, you won’t be able to bypass this page. So, what to do now? Is there any update on the situation getting fixed or being worked on? Continue reading to know.

Pokemon Showdown servers are currently experiencing issues. Due to this, you will not be able to access its features. And, there is nothing you can do to fix it, since this is a server-side issue, and not a client-side one. So, for now, all you can do is exercise patience. That said, based on the responses from the moderator, there is information related to when the game servers will be live. Here’s what we know:

Server Outage – May 14th, 2024

Posted on May 14, 2024, moderator HoeenHero shared that the issue is related to their server provider. And, for now, the ETA for a fix is just a few hours. But, it has been over 10 hours since the issue surfaced, and the website is still down. The most recent comment of the moderator, dated 4 hours ago, at the time of writing this article states that the ETA is again a few hours, with it being subject to change based on how things go from then on.

Well, due to the lack of any substantial information, we can’t say how much longer it will take for the developers to fix the issue. However, since it is taking so long, the nature of the issue seems to be severe.

Any workarounds?

As mentioned earlier, this is a server side issue, so there aren’t any workarounds that can help you bypass it. But as mentioned by Reddit user Complete-Ad6715, the China server allegedly works. So, access the game’s home page’s settings and switch the server to China to check if that indeed works. If it doesn’t, waiting is the only game you can play.
