For 3DS players, March 27, 2023, was an unfortunate day, as that’s the day when Nintendo discontinued the 3DS eShop. Players were already expecting something like that to happen ever since the 3DS itself was shelved from production in 2020. The eShop shutdown also meant the closure of Pokemon Bank for new users post-March 27. However, there are still a lot of active users of the app. And many of them happen to be having issues updating it.
Finding a sole cause for this issue is next to impossible. Anything can be a cause, ranging from a bad connection to system issues. Nevertheless, we are here to help you fix this issue, and we will be doing that through this guide. So, without much further ado, continue reading to learn how to fix the Pokemon Bank not updating issue.
Pokemon Bank not updating: How to fix it
Since there’s no official fix for this issue, you will have to try the following workarounds:
Restart –
The first thing we recommend you do is restart the app. If that doesn’t help, you can try restarting your 3DS. Sometimes restarting can help, but be ready to try out other workarounds.
Check your internet connection –
Users should make sure that their internet connection is consistent and fast. You can also try restarting the router. If the issue continues to exist, reset the router.
Check server status –
Maybe the reason Pokemon Bank is not updating is due to the servers being under maintenance. As such, we recommend you check the server status first. Here’s a guide that will help you with that. If the servers are doing okay, you can try out other workarounds.
Reset 3DS –
Resetting the 3DS is also something you can do to fix this issue. Now, if this is your first time doing this, follow the instructions below carefully:
- First, connect your 3DS to Wi-Fi.
- Next, open Settings, and from there, select Other Settings.
- Now, scroll down all the way down and select the Format System Memory option, just below System Update.
- When it asks you if you are connected to the internet, click OK. There will be two more prompts. Keep clicking Next.
- Lastly, select Format in the last prompt.
Reinstall –
For many, reinstalling the app was what helped them fix this issue. So, if other workarounds haven’t helped, try this. To redownload the app, you need to open Settings > Data Management > 3DS > Software and choose Pokemon Bank. Now delete the app. Following that, open eShop and navigate to Menu > Settings > Redownloadable Software. Next, select Pokemon Bank and redownload it.
Contact Support –
If even reinstalling the app doesn’t work, the only remaining thing you can do is contact support. Get in touch with Nintendo Support and communicate the issue thoroughly. After that, everything’s in the hands of support.
