The Promised Neverland
The perfect orphanage where children are taught everything with love and care. They have a loving “Mother” but this all goes south when the kids learn the truth that the Mother is raising these kids in order for the monsters to eat the kids when they reach a certain age. It is a manga series written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from August 2016 to June 2020, with its chapters collected in twenty tankōbon volumes. The series follows a group of orphaned children in their plan to escape from their orphanage, after learning of the dark truth behind their existence and the purpose of the orphanage.
The art is very unique with a nice storyline to go along with it. The whole manga has a gripping story and a charming cast of characters. 11-year-old Emma is one of 37 orphans living at the Grace Field House Orphanage. Life is as great as can be for the children at the Grace Field House Orphanage – they eat delicious food, have comfortable beds, they can play games to their heart’s content, and, most important of all, get the nurturing love from their “Mother” Isabella. The story really begins when the kids finally learn the truth about their mother and all.
The children also attend “home school,” and are tasked with completing different tests (which are actually used to gauge how “delicious” they are – since the smarter a human is, the better they taste to the demons who farm them). The orphans are allowed complete freedom, except to venture beyond the grounds or the gate, which connects the house to the outside world.
