Last of Us Part 1 Controller/Gamepad Not Working On PC Issue: How to fix it?

As we mentioned before, there are a couple of reasons why you might run into the controller/gamepad not working issue on PC. So, we have some methods that might potentially fix the issue for you. You will also find some general troubleshooting tips that will come in handy.

1) Reboot your PC-

First, you need to reboot your PC. A lot of times, a bad system boot can trigger unwanted bugs and glitches in video games. So, close all programs and then start the system. Once you do this, launch the game and check if you can use your controller.

2) Disconnect other input devices-

A lot of times, multiple input devices like a controller, gamepad, mouse, and keyboard can trigger glitches. The game is unable to detect and use just one of these devices. So, remove all extra joysticks and input devices and only connect your controller/gamepad to the PC.

3) Check the connection-

In case you are using a wired controller, we recommend disconnecting it and then reconnecting it back to the PC. Also, make sure that the connection is not loose. Do the same for the wireless controller as well. Also, make sure that your wireless controller is fully charged.

4) Disable the Steam Input-

Next, you should disable the Steam Input option through the application. This can sometimes interfere with the devices. So, follow these instructions to disable this feature.

  • Launch the Steam Client and go to Library.
  • Right-click on Last of Us Part 1.
  • Select Properties.
  • Head over to the Controller tab.
  • Here, select Disable Steam Input from the drop-down menu.
  • Close the window and launch the game.

5) Configure your controller-

It is necessary that Steam and your game recognize your controller. Although Steam performs this action automatically, sometimes, you might need to do this manually. Just follow the instructions below to do so.

  • Launch the Steam Client and click on the Steam option on the top-left.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Head over to the Controller tab.
  • Click on the General Controller Settings option.
  • Now, select your controller from the available options.
  • Once you do this, close the window and launch Last of Us Part 1.

6) Launch the game through the Big Picture mode-

Launching the game through the Big Picture mode can also resolve the gamepad/controller not working on PC issue. To do this, first, open the Steam app. Now, click on the Big Picture mode icon on the top-right side of the screen. This icon is beside the minimize and exit icons. Once you are in the Big Picture mode, just browse Last of Us Part 1 and launch it.

7) Use the reWASD app (for PlayStation controller)-

Folks using the PS controller on their PC can use the reWASD application. This app gives you full control over your controller. You can tweak several settings through the menus. You can download/purchase the application from their website. Although you will find support for Xbox controllers as well, it is best suited for PS controllers.

8) Use the Xbox Accessories app (Xbox controller)-

For Xbox controller users, you can download and install the Xbox Accessories app. You can do so through the Microsoft Store. Once you install the application, connect your controller and update it to the latest version. This will probably resolve the issue for you.

Well, this also brings us to the end of the article. We hope that you were able to resolve the issue. Stay tuned to Digi Statement for more such gaming guides.
